So you can adjust camber, toe and caster by installing aftermarket parts, but my question is how do you adjust these things without taking the car to a shop? I'd like to know if it's possible to measure those quantities with simple tools and how.

Also, since everything is adjusted when the car is off the ground, does that mean alignment is a trial-and-error process?

DON'T mess with your alignment yourself. The only thing that you might be able to do by yourself is the front camber. Anything else, just leave it to the people with the equipment to get it spot on.....unless you feel like eating away a few tires in no time. A trial and error process won't show you anything, but it will cost you $$$ in the long run. Save up a few bucks, figure out what you want everything set at, and take it to the people with the right tools.

You can do all of them at home on a level surface. Just get a racer supply magazine, they have all kinds of stuff to measure. It's still expensive though, plan on spending ~$500 to measure all 3.

You can do toe yourself with a measuring tape, two flat and straight pieces of wood, and some math. You can do camber yourself as well, either with a digital angle finder, or a plumb bob, a friend, and some more math.

For caster, and KPI, go to a shop.
