Hi,

I drive a 90' 240 sx. I know that my suspension is bad, get thrown around every bump.

I wanna konw what things need to be changed. Would I just have to get a new a new coilover kit.... or do I have to get new shocks... I am not sure what the difference is.... tried searching and have not had any luck..

Also if how much would all the stuff cost and how much would a shop charge for the labor ?

Thanks in advance.

expensive coilovers 800+ come with the shocks, there is also a bunch of connections and rods (he he, i said rod) that can die over time

If your car is "bouncing around", you may well have blown shocks. If you're not overly familiar with how a suspension system works, you might want to have a shop take a look at the car and at least diagnose the problem.

Replacements for OE shocks aren't expensive. I think you can get KYB GR2's for less than $100 (maybe around $80 a piece for the fronts?). I'm not sure how much labor would be, but it won't exactly be cheap. You could probably use an alignment after worn the part(s) are replaced.

Just a warning...for some reason Nissan OE shocks are insanely expensive. I'd go with aftermarket stuff if you need to replace your shocks.

You likely have blown shocks and your springs have seen better days. Our cars work on a shock/strut and spring setup, which is VERY easy to replace yourself. If you want to go with performance stuff, do a search for springs or shocks and you'll come up with a heck-of-a-lot of answers. If you want something like OEM, you can re-use your springs and just get KYB GR2s, http://www.tirerack.com has them for relatively cheap. A mechanic will likely charge you about $225 to replace all the shocks, it's worth it to do it yourself as far as I'm concerned. Also, alot of bushing sare probably worn out, but start with shocks. Then we can start fixing the rest of the suspension components that are no doubt shot to heck.
