I've noticed for some time now that if I hit a decent sized bump that the suspension will sortof squeak as they're being forced up. I know this isn't a natural sound but I'm not sure if it could develope into a bigger problem soon. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanx guys.

Common culprits of front suspension squeaking are worn bushings in the upper links or on the sway bars. Whichever it is, replace both sides at the same time.

that's what I figured, I just had the tie rods (sp?) replaced about 6 months ago since they were completely shot, along with the sides of my front tires being warped. But I don't know how that could have happened:icesangel I was also wondering if it would be worth putting some custom strut bars in the front and back.

OK, lets help Mayhem clarify some terminology here. I've had problems in the past asking people to replace 'Tension Rod Bushing'. they had no idea what I was talkng about. Apparently they can be called tie rods and strut bars...right? Why can't they just be called what the manual calls them?

In my book, strut bars are reinforcing members between the shock towers that resist the dislocation of each tower relative to one another as a result of torsional forces.

But I didn't write the book, either.

OK, so a strut bar is then also a FSTB (front strut tower brace)? Oh where oh where is the consistency.

a tension rod is definitely not the same as a strut bar, or what some call a FSTB.

I always figured as much, but after talking to local 'techs' for replacing something as simple as a tension rod bushing it might as well just be a crank shaft :rolleyes You would be amazed how many shops gave me the (WTF you talking about look) when I said TR.

heh, yea I know what you mean. But as far as I know the Infiniti mechanic that does all my work refers to them as tie rods. Whether or not thats what they call them by the book is beyond me but he's not a tech that goes by the book as to his experience in the field of Infiniti's

I think each manufacturer names this component something different. Even Nissan isn't consistent.

The most common name is a Tension Compression Rod. Sometimes they substitute Link for Rod. In early Zs we call them T/C links. We typically replace the stock bushing with a steel ball and Nylon socket. That would make the Q respond to steering inputs RIGHT NOW!!!

Sometimes they are a leading link and sometimes they are a trailing link.

Whatever, they are cheap and easy to replace.
