surround around sound

My 2006 M35 X has this great 14 speaker system and it sounds great when I play the demonstration DVD. I don't seem to get surround sound with ordinary cd's. What do I have to do or buy to have this sound system work.

I believe your car is equipped with a DVD-Audio system. DVD-Audio or DVD-A's are available at Best Buy and other retailers. The discs have been out for several years and sadly never gained traction. This format was introduced alongside Super Audio CD or SACD around the turn of 2000. In addition to discrete channel information, these discs offered higher signal to noise and more robust copy protection than CD's That being said, almost all manufacturers are now offering hard drive based systems, Infiniti included. These systems offer ipod like convenience (access to tons of music) at the price of sound quality.CheersMark
