I filled with premium at a local gas station last week. Then drove 300 miles (measured with trip meter) and refilled at the same station using the same pump (to ensure shutoff at same tank fill level). The exact numbers:

301 miles driven
16.06 gallons for refill
18.74 mpg

This was for mixed driving, with probably about 30% of the miles on the highway. I was impressed for such a big car. I am curious to see the mpg on a long highway trip.

it was EPA rated at 18mpg city (optimistic in my view). But sounds like you are well tuned. I got 23 driving x-c in the fgy33.

I am not a leadfoot. So I know that helps. 23 on the highway is nice. Our other vehicle is a 1998 Durango for which we are the original owners. That one has 165K on it and the fuel economy is terrible -- around 13-14 in town and maybe 15-16 on the highway. I also own a 2000 Honda Valkyrie that gets 35 mpg, but it does not work too well for a family of four.

My '03 gets 15 city, 22-23 highway. I also do about 30% highway driving, which comes out to a bit better than 16 mpg. Remember it's a 4.5 l. V-8. Wasn't the 2000 a 4.1l?

Yes, the 2000 was only a 4.1 liter and only 4 speed vs. 3rd gen which 5 speed and 4.5. Overall 18 is about right without lead foot. I usually get around 16-19 combine, I have achieved 23-24 on longer trips on flatter highways with speeds that don't go over 75-80. I do Bay Area to Sacramento and get a solid 23-25 as the CHP patrols it like crazy so cruise control at 73 and good MPG.

I'm a leadfoot and I can get about 15 combined most of the time. I have a few issues that may contribute to bad MPG (needs a tune/flush and KS) but it's not too bad.
