ive had this prob 4 a while, and it's seemed to have gotten worse. when i brake at the light, my idel dips very low and the car sputters ( it used to die but i put in new plugs ). also the throttle response is very poor and when iam driving at a constant speed or accelerating, it surges and/or shakes/jumps really bad, but if i let off the gas it stops. WHAT COULD THIS BE?

when's the last time you changed spark plugs, wires, cap, or rotor? You might could also need a new coolant temp sensor.

does your car ever stall out? i'd say get your fuelpump checked out or maybe something clogged in your fuel system.

My car had this problem for a while too. All i did was spray throttle body cleaner into the throttle body and the IACV tube.

You may also want to try the seafoam treatment. Many people have had great success with that stuff. I said to hell with it and swapped in my sr

well i put in new plugs and that stopped it from dying, maybe its a combo of the 02 sensor and distributer cap and maybe a new fuel filter, but thanks for the input

sea foam works great but theres also 123kit from berry man products ..1 spray intake.2 vacuum line and floor it. 3. poor b12 in fuel tank.should clean out the inside of the engine with thoughs steps.and also u should try buying circle earth grounding for better idle and throttle reponse. should cost no more then 30 bucks on ebay!the berryman products does these things-->step one cleans all the gunk build up in the intake throttle body and removes all build up. step 2. cleans intake valves ,pistons, exhaust valve, and exhaust headers. step 3 cleans all fuel sysytem delivery! that should do the trick!when i bought my car it drove like shat..so i did those things i mentioned above and everything works great now.when u do the vacuum line step u should be blowing black smoke out of your exhaust that means its working ..when it starts to blow white smoke then its clean. this does not mess with your sensors. when using this product u should use 91 or 92 octain!also u should change the oil as well for better results.

You didn't happen to change plug wires just before the problem started did you? It sounds to me like you aren't running on all cyclinders. Check to be sure it's wired properly at the distributor. The correct pattern is:

4321

Make sure that's all correct first before you spend too much money on additives. You might want to check your timing and make sure it's set properly.

the 123 kit only cost 15 bucks and cleans your engine insides ..its worth the money i tell u for real u would of never thought of it .and do it your self engine flush is like another 4 bucks plus the cost of new oil. all together its only like 25 on maintaining a good ride.

Yeah, the pattern is what it should like from the top looking down on it with the bump in between 2 and 1. Timing is checked with a timing light, basically it's a strobe light with a sensor on the #1 plug wire that fires the strobe when it detects current in the plug wire. You just aim the strobe gun at the belt pully and make sure that the pin and the correct mark line up when it fires. On my SOHC engine it was the 2nd mark from the left and it was colored red. Autozone will probably be able to do it for you if you go ask them.

ok silencer, now on the plugs themselves above the header, which is 1 , 2 , 3 and 4, from left to right?

Cylinder 1 is in front and they go in order to the back. Looking at the exhaust header, they go left to right.
