K guys, I'm trying to get this thing to run perfect. It drives real good and everything, but the idling sucks. I did a search on this, and didn't find anything helpful, so I thought that I would just ask.

When I fire up the car and it is somewhat cold, it idles pretty good. But as soon as it warms up, or after driving it, the idling surges. From 1900rpm to 2400rpm. I just cleaned out the MAF and regapped sparkplugs, and replaced all gaskets. I have a hunch that the problem is a vacuum leak or a boost leak (are they that different???). What do you think? I found one tiny hole beside the BOV, but I'm not sure if that would be the cause of this problem.

Thanks guys.

vacuum is without the turbo going boost is with, so yes they are are the same, and I would guess that is the problem too.

Yeah, makes sense. Vacuum leak then.

So where would I find these vacuum leaks?

How many taps you got in it? I got like 5 or so its crazy, but I was thinking since its only after your car starts up its somehting else, because vacuum is all the time and would start when you get it going...let me think about this one.

Sounds like its something to do when the engine warms up, possibly thermostat stuck, oxygen sensor, or fouled up mafs.

Could be the wiring to the MAFS. Or it could have to do with the light blue AC wire running in the intake manifold (in the 4 plugged connector).

Hmmm, MAF wiring? Cause I think that I just noticed a tear in the MAF wiring. Can this be repaired easily? Cause I heard somewhere that that wiring has some sort of special sheild on it. Could I just soilder it together, and tape it up? Cause I have a lot of MAF wiring wound up together, could I just cut that down and once again, soilder it up? Help ! ! !

The wires arent too sensitive to the point that if you solder them they will stop working. I had one of my MAFS wires come loose and the idle just went up and down about 1000rpms every couple seconds.

So your saying that I can solder them, and I shouldn't have any problems? I hope it is going to be that easy. I think the sheild over the wires just got ripped from shipment or some other reason. I'll just solder and tape them up, and hopefully that will solve some things.

The main source of problems with the MAFS wiring is that they were either lengthened wrong or are coming loose. Mine came loose out of the connector. I just shoved them back into the connector for a very temporary solution.

MAF wires being too long will cause it to run like that?

CAN I SOLDER THEM WITHOUT PROBLEMS? CAN I JUST CUT THE MAF WIRE TO LENGTH? THANKS

K no soldering needed. Something is up with the plug. When I move it around while it is in there, the idling changes, or the surging doesn't happen as often. Now that I think about it, it only started to happen after I cleaned the MAF, and I also sprayed the connection with an electrical component cleaner. Could that have hurt something? Hmm

Quite possible. Im not sure what color your wires are (I have blue yellow and brown wires), but when my brown wire got disconnected the whole idle went haywire.

As you can see my MAFS wiring is not the cleanest.

Hmmmm, all three of my wires are black. Weird. Is that an SR MAF, or one from the SOHC KA? Mines from the KA.

Take a volt meter to it and run the FSM test (oHMS)
