My wife's 2012 versa just started surging at hwy speed this afternoon, almost like it was searching for the right gear, the odometer needle would dance around. it was most noticeable on going up hills. Based on previous experience with our old infiniti I pulled and cleaned the MAF, but that did not make a difference. Any ideas on other things i could check? Its still under warranty so my wife is going to try and get it in this week.

Things to check would be codes from the computer using diagnostic consults. For a starting point, the best bet is the dealership, especially due to the warranty. I did some searching on this and found lot's of stuff, TSBs for the CVT, similar issues with similar CVTs, etc. I did not find a specific match worthy of mention, so I'm sticking with take it to the dealership. I hope your surging issue get's resolved. That would be very frustrating for me if my car did that. Please post back your results and which dealership you used.

The dealership determined it was an internal failure with the CVT. Now we are in a holding pattern waiting on warranty approval. This part is pissing me off. I have never had to wait on a warranty repair before, let alone multiple days.

Well, the waiting part seems weird. I'm sorry your CVT had a failure. Getting it fixed under warranty is good news. I hope they can handle it quickly. Drive carefully in the mean time.
