Hmmm, V4 & V6 available with the V6 output rumoured to be around 400 horses, just what the Z would be with the new Infiniti mill under its hood. f*** Nissan dragging its feet as usual.

Speaking of Nissan, those spy shots show an outline reminiscent of the Z, long hood with the driver well back, sloping rear deck lid. I'm sure those head & tail lights are only place holders, and the back glass isn't close to final form either. Why Nissan didn't refresh the Z this year for a new rollout in 2017 I've no idea. It's just disappointing...

Almost as disappointing as a lot of the comments from what I call the "wish kids" in the comments section, some in the linked article and some in a couple of others I read. Undoubtedly this one is my fave:

"Please let it have a Turbo i6, and weigh less than 3800lbs well equipped. I think I'm not being unreasonable here, having it start at around 30K would be awesome. I have a feeling I can have 2 out of 3."

Do kids have any clue how much cars cost now. The weight will probably happen, the cost won't and neither will the I6.

I wish they'd stay off my lawn.

How do we even know that's a Toyota, for one? I looked at that thing yesterday. Usually with spy shots we can tell the maker, but that sucker is so well disguised it could be a Hyundai for all I know.

If that is indeed the Supra, let the Supra stay dead. They pulled a Subaru watering down the FT1 concept into whatever that is. That thing has NO character to its body other than the crazy nose and pasted-on headlights.

I think I'm in a mood today.

The wish kids drive my a** crazy too man. Holy crap I can't stand them. "I want a 2500lb car that makes 500hp out of a quad turbo inline 5 cylinder for $1650. MAKE IT HAPPEN NISSAN!"

Hmmm, my first guess? Mazda RX-9. It just strikes me as Mazda.

Except for the horribly protruding tail lights. It's a style the I call "Frog Eyes" if that makes any sense. That seems like a Toyota thing to me, frog eyes. Could be a Supra. The brake calipers are on the trailing side, so steering rack in front. Certainly not an FRS/BRZ. The steering wheel with fattened thumb rests and a silver plastic trim around the bottom half... that seems like Toyota styling. So, I move further away from my first guess.

I wonder if they'll be bringing it to Laguna Seca. I had fun watching the GTR run laps against a Porsche while it was still a "secret".

I remember when the FRS/BRZ was going to be a sub 20K car, then Sub 25K, then not. I was pretty disappointed. I followed that car for a while and was even saving money. Real money! I wondered if I could stand a car with a black box and motorized throttle body. As the price climbed, those worries no longer mattered... so I bought another 240sx and was happy.

Anyway, its neat to see new cars come along. I hope this one can be a cool one, and that I pass a few on the backroads!

Man I was thinking the same thing!!!
Like who just decides "this is the new Toyota"?! I don't get it. Usually they are right though.

I hope this thing is a fiat and blows everyone's minds.

Glancing at the pics it looks more like a styling evolution of a Bimmer Z4 with goofy taillights. If Toyota goes the flappy paddle route that BMw's embraced, forget it.

Yeah, kind of looks like Z4 concepts, though there have been so many, it's tough to say.

My first thought when I saw it was that I wasn't sure it was a Toyota either. It's hard to tell with the vinyl wrap, but I'm not really sure I like the front styling. That lifted point between the headlights on the front bumper just makes it look like pig-nosed.

But as I write this, I realize, I'm kind of being a nit-picky a**. Enthusiasts have been dying for FR Japanese sport coupe's since they all died in the late 90's. Toyobaru finally made one and it's done alright. I see more and more of them all the time. Every time the S14 is being a PITA about something, I throw something and say I'm going to sell it and order a BRZ. So whatever it is, I'm sure it won't be "perfect", but I'll get it will be good. I hope it's good enough to get Nissan off their a** and do something with the Z. It's been since '09, right? Have they done ANYTHING with it?

I'm interested in the new Supra more out of intrigue at the Toyota/BMW partnership than anything else. I know Toyota CAN build a nice sports car, but they also seem averse to doing it exactly right out of a very Toyota-esque desire to be different for the sake of being different rather than just being excellent (which itself sets you apart as different). LF-A and RC-F are great examples. Awesome on paper, but nobody even remembers they exist, and nobody would actually buy one over [insert x competition model here].

I'm VERY interested to see how different the BMW and Toyota versions of this car are. Fiat and Mazda didn't just make a Miata with different bodywork. They're actually quite different cars that appeal to different people, while neither is objectively "better" than the other. So this could give us a couple of similar, but differently-focused grand tourers, and in the lower-priced end of that segment where competition is very sorely needed right now.

That's unfortunate. That was nearly the lowest point in Celica styling (its successor was worse, but they're both bad). The 6th-gen Celica's styling is basically a Camry stretched over shrunken sort-of-Supra proportions. None of it works and it's all lazy and bland.

Then again, who cares about the styling after they went FWD and got stupid? Gimme an '82 GTS Coupe and we're set.

Look at the rear window details in the spy shots. The shape and size. There's a clue there I think. I don't see this Celica stuff in that at all. I do wish I could drive one of these AWD Celicas. That could be fun! But that is another topic.

I drove Torry's All-trac. It needed some new dampers if I remember correctly.

Well, I dug into some google search results for test and concept car photos and ran into two articles, one of which uses the same photos as the first article posted, both of which refer to a BMW Z5 coupe. Here's a link to each of those speculative articles.

I'm far more likely to believe that's a BMW than a Toyota based on what I've seen, thought I'm still not sure about that either. The "duck tail" rear deck lid is very BMW to me, but nothing about the front bumper looks BMW, but then again, the interior DOES look BMW. That being said, maybe it is the Toyota version of the BMW/Toyota vehicle.

The front bumper looks like a football player that tries to make a statement by upsizing his jock.
