To me people like that are just ignorant. Usually they like to debate things and are hard headed enough to not listen to reason. America was born by the blood of it's miltary and has continued to grow an flourish due to the continued bravery of it's men and women in uniform. I agree sometimes we don't always get it right and sometimes we have our own turds that discredit us and our services, but on the whole any one of Americas service people would not hesitate to step into harms way to protect or save someone. Even if they denounce us everychance they get. America would not exsist if it was not for it's military. Hell alot of other countries owe their freedom to the blood of Americans. Most of us that joined especially after September 11th did so to do our part and try not only to protect our loved ones at home but also to try to make the world a better place. "Believe me sometimes it's hard to remember those ideals especially after 7 months in a 130 degree dust bowl." There is a huge difference between not supporting a particular war and not supporting the troops. If it's hard for us that deal with and actually see what's happening over there to stay motivated how hard must it be for someone who doesn't have first hand knowledge of what's actually happening over there. I speaking as someone who has been to Iraq twice and seen what's actually going on over there believe that we need to stay the course and finish what Rey started. More service men may die by us giving them the home field advatage, but it is worth Otto keep the fighting away from our loved ones at home. The news does not do nearly as many stories about the good we do as they do when somthing bad happens. They don't show Marines doing all they can to save a Iraqi. They don't show the soldiers training them so that one day when we are out of there they can protect their own family. Everyday in one of the war zones somthing bad happens, but everyday somthing equally as good happens. As far as does your opinion as a civillian matter to anyone other than a civillian. Yes it does. I know that Most of us that serve feel a little emberassed and strange when a civilian thanks us for our service, but afterward it also makes us proud. The reason it makes me feel uncomfortable when some one thanks me is because I don't do it for recognition. I do it because I love my family and my country. This post may be full of grammer errors as I typed it on my phone while trying to get my kids ready for bed.
brother i couldnt have said it better myself.
you can still support the ones that defend your freedom without suporting the war. we are just pawns in a global game of chess.
im all about the betterment of life for any human being, no matter what deity it is they serve. just because you dont believe in the same higher power you do doesnt make me better than you. but when the beliefs teach hate and racism, well then that seems more like a cult to me and all those mother effers need to die in hell. just kidding...but not really. anyway, like jsdevildog said, we dont do it for the recognition. everyone signed up for their own reasons...patriotism...education...history...tradition...etc. is it in the militarys description to be a killer? yeah. does that mean that i ever want to kill anyone, no. you dont become a servicemember to kill people just like you dont become a cop to kill people. its all a part of the job. the s*** part, but a part none the less. i never want to have to kill another human being, but if it comes down to me or them, im pullin the trigger first. does that make me a bad person? no. that makes me human.
