"is it wrong to NOT support the troops? cause i dont"was posted on facebook by one of my buddys. i DISAGREE with this 150%im just not sure on how to respond to it. his reason is pretty stupid to me also. his reason "hey signed up for the gig so I mean thats kind of their job right "how would you guys respond to this?regardless if it was facebook or not. this kind of thing should never be said IMO.i made the arguement that not everyone was there to fight a war. some people want the free education and a great job. to feel like they have done something with there life. Now, i would really like to hear from Becky on this one. seeing as one of her kids is leaving or just left for the service.fire away guys and gals. i will post the good responses on this guys facebook

Well I don't support what they are doing because I don't believe our government has them their for the right reasons. I am sure most do not want to be their either but they are people with lives and families so of course I support their health, but not necessarily their mission.

You can support them without supporting the war facepalm.

I hate people who have complete disrespect for those who fight for us even though they might not even believe that they are fighting for the right reasons.

Couldn't agree more. My opinion of any conflict the troops are involved in has no effect on my support. People need to remember that that troops are risking their lives to support us. If you dog them enough, what will happen if there comes a time when we actually need the protection from an immediate threat?

I support the troops but not the politicians that control them.

Does my opinion regarding the military, as a citizen, even matter for anybody other than another citizen? I do care about people, by the way, I'm just saying.

IMO, people that say stuff like this are either just looking for attention or are seriously ignorant of how good they really have it and what our military does. We don't just fight wars. The army was used after Katrina to help keep peace and rebuild New Orleans. The military has been used for aid missions in Haiti and various relief efforts throughout Africa. Even in the Middle East we are providing humanitarian aid and rebuilding schools and hospitals.

Maybe they should go live in a country whose military is used to keep the current government in power instead of defending the citizens. The country of Togo has a day for celebrating military victories. Almost ALL of their victories are against their OWN people.

Or they could go visit eastern Europe and talk to some people who were around when the Soviets were in control. I wonder how they would like to wait in line for hours for simple food like oranges then have to bribe the foreign military in their city to keep them.

I've been in the Marine Corps for almost 5 years, both of those examples are from people I’ve talked to and personal experience. Sorry for the rant, it just irritates me when someone doesn't have the intelligence to support the people that provide them with safety and freedom.

To me people like that are just ignorant. Usually they like to debate things and are hard headed enough to not listen to reason. America was born by the blood of it's miltary and has continued to grow an flourish due to the continued bravery of it's men and women in uniform. I agree sometimes we don't always get it right and sometimes we have our own turds that discredit us and our services, but on the whole any one of Americas service people would not hesitate to step into harms way to protect or save someone. Even if they denounce us everychance they get. America would not exsist if it was not for it's military. Hell alot of other countries owe their freedom to the blood of Americans. Most of us that joined especially after September 11th did so to do our part and try not only to protect our loved ones at home but also to try to make the world a better place. "Believe me sometimes it's hard to remember those ideals especially after 7 months in a 130 degree dust bowl." There is a huge difference between not supporting a particular war and not supporting the troops. If it's hard for us that deal with and actually see what's happening over there to stay motivated how hard must it be for someone who doesn't have first hand knowledge of what's actually happening over there. I speaking as someone who has been to Iraq twice and seen what's actually going on over there believe that we need to stay the course and finish what Rey started. More service men may die by us giving them the home field advatage, but it is worth Otto keep the fighting away from our loved ones at home. The news does not do nearly as many stories about the good we do as they do when somthing bad happens. They don't show Marines doing all they can to save a Iraqi. They don't show the soldiers training them so that one day when we are out of there they can protect their own family. Everyday in one of the war zones somthing bad happens, but everyday somthing equally as good happens. As far as does your opinion as a civillian matter to anyone other than a civillian. Yes it does. I know that Most of us that serve feel a little emberassed and strange when a civilian thanks us for our service, but afterward it also makes us proud. The reason it makes me feel uncomfortable when some one thanks me is because I don't do it for recognition. I do it because I love my family and my country. It's matter of opinion I guess...

But then again...

It must be nice to use the freedom of speech to slap the hand that gave it to you... (Totally directed to your friend)

While I would disagree with you buddy, he should support our troops, I'm thinking he's being misunderstood. He likely means, as others have pointed out, he doesn't support the reason why we're at war...or whatever it is.

...And if he truly does not support our troops, then, well I guess that's the great thing about our country. We can have our own beliefs without being persecuted...unless you say "nappy headed hoe's".

But I support our troops.

brother i couldnt have said it better myself.

you can still support the ones that defend your freedom without suporting the war. we are just pawns in a global game of chess.

im all about the betterment of life for any human being, no matter what deity it is they serve. just because you dont believe in the same higher power you do doesnt make me better than you. but when the beliefs teach hate and racism, well then that seems more like a cult to me and all those mother effers need to die in hell. just kidding...but not really. anyway, like jsdevildog said, we dont do it for the recognition. everyone signed up for their own reasons...patriotism...education...history...tradition...etc. is it in the militarys description to be a killer? yeah. does that mean that i ever want to kill anyone, no. you dont become a servicemember to kill people just like you dont become a cop to kill people. its all a part of the job. the s*** part, but a part none the less. i never want to have to kill another human being, but if it comes down to me or them, im pullin the trigger first. does that make me a bad person? no. that makes me human.
