I'm currently in the process of completely stripping my 240. It is an 89 hatchback. I just removed the dash today, and want to remove all the heater/AC stuff because I won't be using the heater or A/C when the car is finished (I live in hawaii I'll just roll down the damn window thank you).

I also am wanting to paint and strip any unnecessary wiring (radio, heater, etc) and padding so I will need to take out the metal bar thing that is under the dash. In order to do this, will I need to remove the steering column and stuff? I think I saw the column bolted to this metal bar so I don't know if I can just leave the column hanging or remove it completely?

I thought the crash bar was welded to the chassis.

Hmm I thought I saw it bolted in, but it does seem logical that it would be welded hehe. Either way, will the steering column have to come out to strip all the heater/AC and wiring and stuff? or can I leave it intact and still strip the interior completely?

If you are talking about the big metal framework that the dash attaches to then I believe its bolt in.

Well it is on a UK spec S13 ! As for if its possible to run without it and not making anything new up I dont know

I wasn't wanting to leave it out permanently and drive like that. I just stripped everything out, the support bar, steering column, and all. And yea, it is bolted in comes right out.

If I'm understanding this correctly. Are there two bolts at the very bottom of the steering column by the brake pedal. I loosened them up so i could get my gauges in and also there are two bolts near the top there gold. Don't know if thats right but thats my guess.
