So my dealer in North Jersey is telling 2-3 weeks for any SLs -- and that's not a promise. All he currently has is the one red SL that seemingly every Nissan dealership was given. I'm trying to monitor stock online by checking websites for him and other areas dealers. Does anyone know if there is a specific day of the week when dealers typically get their deliveries? Is it like every monday the trucks roll in or is it much more random?

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

David

I don't know how often that dealership might get shipments but I can certainly tell you what all is available (I work for a Nissan dealership in PA).What color and options did were you looking for? I'll have our DX guy see what's out there.

I am very interested in hearing about supply. We had a hell of a time finding a dealer that was getting one with ABS and Auto in Black. That was two weeks ago. It was supposed to be in on the 1st of September but they said they are behind 10-12 days. Not too bad, but we are in TX, right by the plant. I cannot imagine how behind they must be up north.

It might be intersting to get a running tally on who has been waiting the longest to get their Versa. What do you guys think? New thread?

i dunno if this helps, but when i passed by 2 days ago from the dealership where i got mine, he said that they are actually holding back the stocks even if the production is up, because corporate wants to get a feel of the market and see how much demand would change overtime, and that's where they will base their distribution and pricing. that same day, there was only one on the lot and he was saying someone was offering them above the MSRP just to get it.when i got mine 3 weeks ago, there was only 3 on the lot. i bought one and someone bought the other one the same day.

I put a deposit down on mine on Wed and I'm not gonna have it until early/mid Nov probably. Supposedly it's nearly impossible to find one with ABS right now. Weird.

Don't know if you all saw this or if it sheds any light on the issue, but in the New York Times review if of the Versa online now, they wrote this gem:

"...A six-speed manual is also available. This month, a four-speed automatic will be offered as a stopgap measure because the supplier of the continuously variable transmissions cannot deliver all the units Nissan needs for the Versa and the Sentra." --New York Times, "2007 Nissan Versa: Another David Wielding a Slingshot" 09/06

Wonder if that could be a source or the delays people are experiencing?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I had our DX guy check on Grey Versas with the CVT transmission and the Convienince Package and there doesn't seem to be any shortage of them, at least around Pennsylvania.

I don't buy that the manufacturer is holding back stock. that doesn't make sense. PLUS if you heard it from a car salesman, you know it's crap!

The factory is taking orders & filling them ASAP. They are doing this by swapping vehicles going to other dealers.

Each dealer is still on a limited allocation though. If your dealer sold their allocation, you ussually only have to wait 3-4 weeks to get the Versa you want.

If you want options that are not avaliable yet, then you may have to wait 3-4 months.

The short supply of CVT trannies is the cause of the dealer allocation. Want a 6-speed or 4-speed auto, 1-2 weeks in a large market.

I have a friend who is a manager at the Nissan Dealer I got mine from.

I tried to find an SL with 6-speed and ABS. Impossible. Will have to settle for an SL 6-speed with standard brakes. How are the standard brakes?

Brakes are great. I hate ABS so standard brakes are best for me even in Denver.

I pulled the ABS fuse in my Xterra to disable the ABS because ABS does not slow you down in sloppy conditions!!! I was constantly having the ABS activate when the road was wet even under light braking. This happened with the stock tires and was even worse with softer off-road tires.

ABS=worst safety invention ever

Well, let's see...... 7 weeks ago this coming Thursday, I picked up my 6 speed, silver SL w/conv. pkg. My Mom is getting a Versa as well. My dealer sent a driver to Little Rock (I'm near Nashville) to get my car and a driver to Mississippi to get Mom's car. They had sold her car by the time the driver got there.

We've now been waiting almost 7 weeks for them to find a Metallic Grey 6 speed SL w/conv. pkg. In the mean time, she's been driving a loaner Sentra (POS, compared to the Versa) and they've got her '97 Pathfinder as a hostage !

From Autoweek's article "Stopping the Slide" (http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a ... 13001/1041):

The automaker is sold out of the Versa and Altima sedans, Thormann said here today. With the launches of the 2007 Sentra sedan in the next few weeks, the Infiniti G35 car this month and the redesigned 2007 Altima in November, Thormann predicted that Nissan's sales decline will end.

So does that mean we'll be waiting until at least October for our cars????

The really scary part of that article was the suggestion that GMC could be joining the Nissan-Renault company.

Talk about something that is subject to interpretation... I am in the exact disagreement of you.

I think the Versa's standard brakes leave MUCH to be desired, I went almost completely sideways braking on I-5 from 60 mph to slow down for a traffic jam.

My last 3 cars have all had ABS, and it has saved me from accidents many many times. I didn't even mind having ABS on the autocross course! The last car before those 3 that did NOT have ABS locked up its brakes on black ice (by just TAPPING the brakes) and ended up costing $1200 in suspension repairs.

Hey man listen up,I just drove past the Nissan dealership we have in Route 440 in Jersey City, NJ. They have about 5 Versas. I saw that the first one was a light color with rims so it is the SL. I am not sure if it was white or silver (too dark). Anyways, I saw 5 in the lot and 1 inside on the floor. Stop by and see what they have, as many dealers do not put that they have the Versas online. or if they do they pull them out as sold very quickly to avoid having to trade. On route 1 (Samsone Automall) I got mines when they supposedly didn't have any in stock. Anyways, good luck and hurry to ROUTE 440!

I'd have to argue that one... maybe it's just bad implementation... but my girlfriend and I both had Chevy Cavaliers (same model, different year)... and the ABS did not work well at all...

Both of our cars would freak out, quickly pumping and releasing the breaks, even when we didn't stop quickly... I ripped the ABS module out of my car.

And I specifically asked for the Versa W/O ABS, I don't need that headache again. I prefer to learn how to brake correctly in an emergency situation.

I'll take ABS any day of the week. I have already nearly creamed a couple cars after sudden traffic stops in front of me. And no, I was not too close. But, once I hit the brakes and I felt the thing lock up, I knew the skinny tires and brakes were on the weak side. In fact, I drive defensively all the time even more so when in the V because of two near misses. All my ABS experience has been with the Ford products though and though work very well.

9/15/06 - Bob Howard Nissan, OKC, has a red 6-speed. The salesman said they are expecting a CVT this next week. (But I realize "next week" is the standard answer.)
