HI,Just purchased a G35. I have to do some light towing so need to fit a tow hitch. There does not seem to be many people making them or know how to fit themIs there any imformation out there on who supplies them. Has anyone fitted one and to what fixuing points.Currently I am having to design and make one myself. Thats no issue, but would help if someone has done it before.JAX350

welcome to NICO!

I would also recommend against towing anything with a G...There isn't a good place to attach a hitch, or wiring for lights.

I'm sure you could rig something...but do that at your own risk.

Just did a Google search with 'g35 hitch'. There are a few.

Depending on what 'light towing' means I wouldn't worry too much about towing a light trailer based on vehicle weight, etc. Over the years many vehicles a lot lighter and less capable have pulled trailers. To me the issue would be that towing a trailer is simply hard on any vehicle. This actually is one area where I tend to like the idea of FWD. My experience has been if it starts to sway a little bit of gas tends to cure it quickly. Unless the 'G' is part of the reason for the tow, I vote for picking up a cheap sacrificial truck and use it for this purpose.

I agree with everybody here.

Here is how I see. Not sure what year you have but my 08 says on the door. Max capacity for cargo is 900lbs. That is the cargo. You can imagine if you put anything on the hitch would go over the limit. Especially when you hit alittle pothole.

Also as Perry mentioned it RWD isn't really a best for towing.

Warranty would be another issue if you still have. Not sure what year we are talking about. Anything related to drivetrain issue or some of the electrical issue would be out of question.

Get an old beater pick up,van, jeep, suv or something cheap.

Actually the maximum cargo capacity in pounds often doesn't equate to the maximum towing capacity. An SUV can have a cargo capacity of 1500 lbs. for an example while having a towing capacity of upwards of 9000 lbs.

However Infiniti doesn't recommend towing with any of its passengers cars and I believe that includes the passenger car that some confuse with an SUV called the EX35. Some of the reasons stated appear to be simply stress on the drive train.

Now back to a hitch. Can you get away with it. Well any towing applies stress to any vehicle. so to me it still comes down to what is 'light towing'? If this is simply a trip to Home Depot for a few garden supplies weighing maybe 200 lbs. well no big deal. Maybe it is simply mounting a bike to a receiver style hitch, again no big deal.

But if we are speaking of hauling a large Jet Ski, then I say a big deal. There are a few hitches that will not cause issues with the car itself by their installations so I would not outright state 'don't do it'. It comes down to what they are going to be used for. Compared to what I am used to seeing the 'G' is probably easily as capable, however when it comes to repair of the wear and tear, far more expensive. To me I like the idea of the sacrificial truck or if you only need an occasional use then maybe just rent what you need, even from Home Depot.

There are hitches available. I just installed this one on a 2006 G35X so I could hook up a small utility trailer:http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-...5.htm

It's a nice piece and sits up under the rear fascia tightly and out of the way. Trimming of the bottom of the fascia is minimal and looks perfectly fine from behind the car. Although it added time, I found it easier to remove the rear fascia completely from the car (fasteners are located behind trunk liner and tail lights – remove all as well) to make it easier to fish the bolts through the bumper support. I did NOT use the fishing wire that came in the kit, instead I used a long Craftsman flexible magnet which make it much easier to drop into the holes I drilled.

I now need to figure out what kind of wiring harness to use/install. Not sure which way I’m going with that yet. Perhaps one of the ones listed in the site I posted a link to above. This type of electrical system is new to me.

Hope this helps.

People who want to tow or mount bikes on Gs make me MAD. It's a luxury/sports car, NOT a utility vehicle. The chassis was designed for safety and handling, NOT so you can pull 1000lbs of garbage to the dump.

If you need a utility vehicle, buy a truck, SUV, Jeep (even some of these are too weak to tow much), or even a Suby. Leave the luxury line alone!

Maybe he didn't need it at the time he bought the car.

You in a bad mood today Nate??

Sorry. It's just a pet peeve and I'm stressed. Son is teething. We just signed a lease for a new Condo. I need to get a rental truck and move on a work day which also happens to be the day my union is striking...

Back on topic. The G chassis was not designed with towing in mind. Just because it has decent torque and HP doesn't mean the frame will yield to pulling a heavy trailer with cargo on it. I can see the G pulling one of those motorcycle trailers and that's about it.
