Supply and demand of 2008 coupes

I'm planning on buying one of the new coupes almost when they first come out, probably in October. Looking at the 6mt sport with most of the options (premium, technology, nav, 4 wheel steer), but not all wheel drive. I'm also picky on the interior and exterior colors.

My question is for someone who knows or has an idea of how the supply and demand will be for these cars. My intuition tells me the supply will be low and demand high. Dealers will be charging sticker plus whatever they think they can get. Could there be waiting lists (my biggest fear)?

I'd really appreciate the opinion of anyone who works at a dealer.

I would say there will be a waiting list. I think the dealerships are taking orders at least some of them. Maybe it is time for you to visit one. I believe they are asking $1k cheque for deposit. I hope you'll get one and keep us updated. They are sexy.

I myself was considering buying an 08 G37 MT6 but there were to many un-controlables. The sales dept wanted me to put some money down and that was just to get my name on the waiting list. I had no real control over colour, features or price so if someone was on the waiting list ahead of me wanting the same features I wanted, he would get that car before me and I may be stuck with something that was not exactly what I wanted.

Now I am just as picky as you when it comes to picking my car and I want what I want so I decided to pick up an 07 MT6, getting exactly what I wanted. I can always drive it for a couple of years and then, because they retain their value relatively great compared to other cars, trade it in for an 08 or 09 after the hype and the price have leveled out.

It's kind-of surprising that there would be a waiting list...the new coupe didn't receive a very warm reception. I mean, we're not talking about the new C6 vette! The dealers charged a couple thousand over sticker when they came out, to say nothing about the Z06 model.

Personally, I don't care for the new look of the G35 coupe...but I need to see one up close before making a final decision. I might have been swayed if they had 400+HP though....
