While driving home from work today the supplemental air bag warning light began flashing. The owners manual only suggests taking it to the dealer.Has anyone had this problem & is there anything simple to check before going back to the dealer?

I guess you guys never had early BMW. It was a common problem with them. I don't know if that's the case here. The sensor under the passenger seat was faulty and cracked. Yes I know it is a BMW. What you expect. Maybe some wire loosen when you were driving. I would definitely go to the Service to get it fixed ASAP. If they tell you they can't find anything and they are resetting it for you. Push them, That's your and your passengers safety. Don't let them snowball you. Keep us posted please.

I had this same problem last year only a few weeks after I purchased my 2005 G, they had to repace a sensor, fortunatly for me it was covered under the factory warranty.

If your are still under warranty I would take it to the dealer.

I hope this helps

Bah,

My 2005 G35x had this SAME problem scores of times.

Flashing airbag light means you have NO airbags.

First time, took it in and they "reset the code"

Fine I figured, one of those things.

Couple of months later, same problem, the flashing air bag light. Problem seemed to happen I noticed when making a slightly agressive turn.

Took it back to the dealer.

Go to pick it up, I say, "so what was the problem?"

"Oh, we reset the code"

Me, I can feel my blood pressure rising, "I told you when I brought it in this morning that you reset the code last time"

"Well, we couldn't duplicate the problem once we reset the code"

Me, "It's going to happen again"

Them, "Well if it does, we are going to have to dig deeper"

Sure enough, took a hard turn, stupid light comes on.

Take it back for the third time now.

"Ok, look, reseting the code isn't the solution unless you guys want to go to Canadian Tire and buy one of those red toggle switches and bolt in right in the middle of the dash board so that I can "reset the code" every time this happens"

"Ok, we'll check it out"

Come back at the end of the day, "well, you need a new airbag and module, we have to order the parts, you'll need to bring it back, we'll call you when the parts are in, meanwhile, we reset the code"

Sigh.....

Do they call me?

Of course not.

I call them

Sigh.....

Take it back for the fourth time.

I figured that that was it.

Wrong....

Light comes on again, back to the dealer.

"Ok, this isn't funny anymore"

"Well check it out and let you know."

Come back at the end of the day, "It's the "spiral cable" we have to order the part, we'll call you, we reset the code"

Sigh.......

Do they call me?

Of course not.

I call them and leave a voice mail with the woman who works there.

Does she call me back?

Of course not.

I call them back and leave another voice mail.

Do they call me?

Of course not.

Finally I get a hold of the other service manager, blah blah blah, spiral cable.

"Oh yeah, uh, we can't find one, we're going to have to see if another dealer has one"

What the fark do you mean you can't find a part?

And why does it take 2 months to get?

Anyway, he senses I am going to pop a gasket. He calls me back having sourced a part.

Whatever....

6'th visit, they install a new spiral cable.

That was 3 months ago.

Knock on wood, the light hasn't come back on again.

So, if your airbag light is coming on when you are making slightly agressive turns, suspect "the spiral cable"

Why that is an issue I have no clue.

True story, every word of it.

Terrible problem, terrible service. But you know what they say at Infiniti, "Six times is a charm!"

That's a scary story.

It is dangerous because when it is faulty it won't deploy the airbag in the case of accident. It is a most fix.

Well my G35 was at the dealer today. I received a telephone call this afternoon from Service that a sensor indicated that the drivers side air bag was defective. Hopefully they will have the replacement air bag tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.I'm using a loaner 06 G35X automatic sedan. I find a considerable difference in power and handling between the 6 speed & the automatic. In my opinion the 6 speed manual G35 is a far superior vehicle.

I received my vehicle back today. The dealer replaced the drivers side air bag under warranty. No charge! I'm very satisfied with the service. I drove a 06 G35X sedan loaner for two days. There is a considerable differance in handling and performance between the automatic G35X and the 6 speed manual. In my opinion, the 6 speed manual if a far superior vehicle.

Well the air bag warning light returned today. The fix lasted one day. I returned my vehicle to the dealer and am using a loaner.

Ask them to replace the clock spring. It is the most common issue with airbags aging.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I received my G35 a short while ago. It had a B 1134 code that cleared and so far has not come back. However, somehow I have the feeling that the trouble will reoccur? The dealer even offered to come pick up the vehicle should the trouble reoccur & drop off a loaner. So far I can't complain. Intermittant troubles are a sometimes a ***** to find?

Anyways...my airbag light just starting blinking today. I'm going to take it in soon and see what happens. I'll post the results. Sorry if this post is old, but I felt like following up if anyone was interested.

Thanks again for the advice. I got it fixed in a day. In regards to the airbag, they said the "left module" was out and had to be replaced. Luckily, free for charge since it's under warranty. However, I had to freakn change my belts after discovering they were looking pretty brittle - wish I would have looked a little more under the hood when I was buying it those three months ago - freakn used car salesmen
