I am going to do a series of drains and fills using the drain plug on a Y33. I read here that some are having good results with Supertech ATF. My local Walmart had gallon jugs of Dex III compatible ATF for $12 each or quart bottles of Dex VI for $4. Is the Dex III or Dex VI preferred for the Y33? Will a gallon be sufficient to refill after a plug drain on level ground? Does the drain plug need a new crush washer with each drain or does it have a built-on gasket?

I did two drain and fills yesterday using the Supertech gallon jugs labeled for Dex III compliance. First batch of fluid that came out was reddish-brown on a paper towel. I then drove about 12 miles, cycling through all the gears including reverse at various times. Then I did another drain and fill. The fluid looked a bit better, but still darker than the new fluid being added. My plan is to do at least two more drain and fills in the near future.

Is there a minimum amount of miles to be driven between drains and fills when using this method to refresh trans fluid?

As far as I can tell, this is the first trans fluid replacement that this car has seen. Current mileage on the car is 101,000.

12 miles in between drain/fills is more than enough to circulate the fluid.......even 5 miles would be just fine.

Good. Thanks. Shop wanted $175 for a trans fluid exchange. Five of these drain and fills will cost $60 in fluid using the Supertech. I am slender enough to slide in a bit and reach the trans pan bolt without even jacking the car. So this is a fairly simple money saver as far as maintenance items.

I am far from "slender", and did the exact same procedure many, many times over the 315,000 miles I had my Q.Easier than changing the oil and filter! Get it done real good {5 times is excellent} then do a single drain and fill every 15,000 miles like clockwork for as long as you own the car.

I really like the car and want to keep it running well for as long as possible. Great to hear you got 315K miles out of your Q. That means that mine with 101K still has quite a bit of potential miles left in if provided the wrong parts don't go out. I will follow your recommended intervals on how to keep the trans fluid fresh after I get the initial 5 completed.

I've been using the Wal Mart Dex III (blue bottle) in all 6 of the Q's I've owned over the last 10 years. I do a drain and fill (3 1/2 - 4 quarts) with every engine oil change. transmission fluid stays a clear red color and I've never had issues in any of my Q's. My daily driver, a 92Q, shifts smoothly in all gears at 170k miles. A lot cheaper than synthetic with the same results.

Great. Another confirmation on the Supertech. I am going to be about and about today and will pick up 3 more gallons to complete my factory fluid turnover.
