i use my truck for work in construction. i have modified the air intake system, the muffler, the tires, the shocks and had jet recalibrate the ecm... now i want to increase the payload capacity. supersprings sells two different sets of leaf spring add-ons, one regular rated at 1500lbs and the other at 3000lbs... i think the truck has a max payload of 1080lbs...is it crazy to try to exceed the mfr's max payload (i think i do all the time anyway)?

The frame under the truck is plenty strong to take the abuse. These trucks are a bit underpowered, and have just adequate brakes for heavy loads, so consider that when loading it down. I'm not familiar with the aftermarket spring packs you mention, but it sounds like they may work.

Another option is to source a set of junk yard springs from a hardbody or frontier and steal the second leaves out of it and add it to your packs. Air bags would also be a good alternative and would give you the best of both worlds - pump them up for load handling, turn off for empty driving. This would be a custom application, but wouldn't be terribly hard to install, especially if you have some minor fab skills.

thanks for that information...i'll go for the add-on springs. the installation looks relatively simple, and they're not too expensive. i was mainly worried about the axle... the tires, custom rack and frame i'm pretty sure can handle it.i haven't had the actual hp increase calculated with the mods i've made, but it feels (seat of the pants) like at least 20-30 hp more than before, and plenty of power to get on the freeway with a heavy load.

I missed from your first post that you had the SC engine. Yeah, it probably does get down the road just fine.
