so as we all know, the engines in our Q's/Pathfinders will last literally until the end of time if treated right. My question is, how much added strain does supercharging an engine put on the engine and engine components... or is most of the strain on things like axles and transmission?- the parts bearing the brunt of the added horsepower. I've wanted to do this for some time, but don't know if its a good idea, especially considering my high mileage. What do you guys think? Is it time to just come to terms with the fact that my car wasn't meant to be a speed demon, and never will? also, has anyone seen a kit out there for the Q/ pathfinder?thanks,-Nick

I heard that the G supercharger works w/some mods including the cam. But with that many miles I would think about swaping or remaping the cpu, changing the injectors, springs, exhaust, and maybe the rings so your not blowing your gas out the exhaust

A mec a nic told me if i bought the parts he'd install them. Then I got him talking found out how easy it was that everything will bolt right up. but experience w/other vehicles makes me think I'll do it myself when I can afford the parts. Send pics if you decide to do it.

Yeah I mean the transmission in our cars aren't any bigger than a Honda Civic's, however they hold up nicely to the extreme lack of power the 3.3Liters like to produce. I would think that with an extra 100 horse power, the trans wouldn't last 6 months under the pressure. If I'm correct there are tougher transmissions that we can install???? has anybody else looked into this??

Your motor most likely will not take the power. As decent as these motors are, at 140+k miles, it will not be taking forced induction very well, for very long. If you threw in a fresh short block then maybe Id give it a shot.

But you then come to the same standstill I was at. Transmission will slip like CRAZY, even worse if you have an auto, and I could find no companies with off the shelf trannies with crytreated internals and improved cluth /torque convertors.

Not to say there not out there, but you will be paying ALOT for them

I wanted to turbo m qx4, but the 3-4k it would cost me to piece a kit myself (tuning options cost alot for our cars) and then not knowing the kinda power the transmission could take stopped me

A while back I had a leaking transmission seal went and had it fixed at a local transmission shop and the guy was telling me that I should think about doing an overhaul soon. I thought about it and just called him he told me that it would be a custom job he'd have to pretty much have to gut the transmission and hand build it. This would be nice but I wouldn't gut it just change the torque converter and a stronger yoke and i think you'll be fine if you maintain it really well.

vq motors are pretty long lasting and reliable, theres many guys on the Maxima forums who have 150k+ mile supercharged vq30s, and the vq35s are proving to be pretty reliable as well

I'd say with SCing a Qx4 your biggest problem will be the transmission. upgrading the fuel system on the vq35, getting tuning and guages and not going to agressive with the SC pulley size and the motor should be fine.

As far as the ECU goes, I dont think you have to do much, maybe a piggyback system like the emanage would help, or maybe a SAFC would be enough for a milder setup

just see the setups the SC 350z guys are runningI have a Supercharged Maxima, years and years no problems

This is my first go at a vee 6 red dot motor.

But if it's anything like a Volvo, then those guys +T their brick with 200,000k with 10+ pounds of psi...All day with all kinds of great results.

When my "new" 300k mile Qx4 is running, might have a go at it.

I'm Rob, how it goes...
