I am about to supercharge a 97 pathfinder with a full setup from a 03 frontier(gotta love ebay.) I am rebuilding this engine from the heads up installing a new set of cams I have heard people talking about this but i have never heard anyone saying that they actually have. The biggest problem so far appears to be hood clearence. If anyone has done this before, or has any comments, i would like to know so i know what i'll end up with in the end

Not to be harsh but you will end up with nothing to justify what you spend doing it. The boost is not all that great. Beside the lower end needs work to accept the SC. There is a different set of bearing for the VG33ER engine versus the VG33E that is in your car now.

it's been done:http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/178835

http://www.insanium.com/ is his personal website.

I'd sell your 97 pathy and buy a 3.5L pathy or qx4. you can find one these days for great prices. They seem to depreciate fast. Then supercharge the vq35de.... then you'll have a worthy dyno.

I'm hoping someone does this:http://www.aebsracing.com/prod...roker

I hear it's bulletproof... for 1000 hp+

so how much boost does the sc unit put out? i've heard anywhere between 6 and 9. I might end up pulling the whole engine out since it has 115k anyway and rebuilding it with those bearings. What else would you recommend replacing along the way. The only reason i want to stick with this pathfinder is that it is paid off and it's my first car.

now i'm no expert but if your qx4 has the 3.3 motor the kit will end up costing u between 800-1500 $(mine is right at 1000) If your qx4 has the 3.5 i don't believe that it'll fit ur motor but then again i could be wrong, just wait for NISTECH to respond on fitment. i will be starting this project late summer so i will let you know how it goes. By the way does anyone know where i can get a slightly used hood off of a 96-99 path? Already checked ebay.com and car-part.com

The 01 QX4 should have the 3.5l engine and the SC off the 3.3 wont fit, they have other bolt ons you can add fro the 3.5l Check with our sponsers, But I dont see why you couldnt bolt up one of the 350z chargers to a path.

Try the dealers for the hood, they dont have used but they are begining to use a aftermarket option for hood suppliers. They are alot cheaper that route as opposed to new factory part.

The Xterra had the VG33ER. Your QX has the VQ35DE, same engine found in the 350z, Maxima, Altima 3.5 and a TON of other nissan models. It's a much better engine, and it's got plenty of aftermarket options available for supercharging. As NISTECH said, any 350Z s/c should work with your engine. You *may* need a new hood to clear it depending on it's setup, but other than that, there should be no issues.

Check out these Stillen chargers for the Z. They're top-mounted roots-type, so you will need a new hood. But if you go centrifugal like PalmerWMD did on his, you should be fine for hood clearance.

ok nistech i have a question for you. on the nissan parts website it tell me that there is a n/a crank pulley and then one for the s/c, what difference, if any, is there between these two pulleys and should i buy the s/c crank pulley?

I am not sure of the differences in the pullies. I know the crank and rod bearings are different between the 2. This may mean the crank is different as well. Like the snout could be a larger diameter or longer. I would go with which ever crank you intend to use.

do you think i need to replace my connecting rods along with this swap or will i not be making enough power to worry about something like that, i just installed limited slip so that should take care of any traction issues i have especially with the 255/55/17's, is there anyway of finding out how much horsepower a stock pathfinder transmission will hold also?
