There are many problems here.1st off the Emissions issue. The car is considered ULEV 50 state compliant. With California getting ready to put the smackdown on dirty tailpipes of all years (all states that follow CARB will also fall in line) it will be very difficult to get certification for a supercharged Versa. Problem is that if you can't get certification in California, you lose the majority of your market.
ECU issues...
This car runs ubber lean. So lean that an after market ECU should be used if you are going to boost. So now you are talking even more moola. The Jspec supercharger also needs to use the aftermarket ECU.
So now you have made the car illegal in all 50-states. CARB wont cert the ecu as they are getting really strict, unless Nissan gets behind it and can make it legal. But is it cost effective for them?
Will the automatics handle that power? I am betting no. So there is another big issue.
Manufactururs have had the specs on the car since the spring. If they dont have anything out yet then they will probably not for quite some time. It is better to wait to see how the car is marketed and who is buying it. Cost of fuel has moved this car into the ownerships of more affluent buyers than would normally purchase $12,000 cars. Waranty issues. How many people want to void 3 to 5-year warranties? Not many. You may see parts comming out at later dates, like 3 to 5 years, but this all depends on the markets, laws, and the cost and availabilty of fuel.
