A turbo is far more common on a 240. You would have much better support and more options if you go that route. Not sure how much a "bare bones" setup will cost. If it was cheap and easy though, more people would do it.

Do a basic tune up. Then get used to driving the car and learn how it handles and such.

You can't do anything with extremely minimal income.. Just get better at driving your car.

If it's in good condition, your 240 can probably already beat many of the lawnmowers running around town. Not all of them, of course, but so many are 70% show and 30% fartpipe, leaving them with not much more than they had stock.

Probably everyone here will be shoving you down the turbo road, and there's good reason for that. Check out the Ka-T section. You'll find everything you need to know there.

There's nothing wrong with hitting the track with a stock car. It will give you an idea of what it's like, as well as let you know what kind of condition your car is in performance-wise. Give us some more info on your car (year/model, miles, mods...)and someone can probably tell you about what your 1/4 time should be if your engine is in good shape. If you're running a bit behind, you'll know you need to start with a slightly deeper tune-up than the one you should have already performed the day you got your used vehicle.

Just a suggestion I'm going to side with Bene on this one. I'm currently working on the same thing, our cars are 15-10 years old and they just can't cut it like they used to. Get your car running like it was walking off the lot, personally that's the best satisfaction that I can get out of my car right now - having it run really smoothly. There was a thread in here about gettign the car running like new, do a search on it, however when I finish all this kind of restoration work - I'll then start thinking about any major modifications.

start with the tune up, then save up a bunch of money and put both a supercharger and turbo on it
