My car gets like 14-17 mpg . The motor is brand new with like 3,000 miles on it. It went for smog testing in november, and passed with flying colors. What could it be? I need this fixed already.

EDIT:KA24DE,Its manual, I drive about 70% streets and 30% highways, And the motors stock.

Its Manual

About 70% streets, 30% highway

And motors stock.

I wish I was pulling 29mpg

240s never got 29mpg

you should expect 17-19 city and 24-25 highway.

all depending on HOW YOU DRIVE though.

And I read all these threads about similar issues and everyone seems to say replace the o2 sensor

But if it was the o2 sensor it wouldn't have passed smog in november would it?

you have a serious problem if you are getting that kind of mileage.turbo charging makes your engine run more efficiently.at low boost cruising you should get better mileage than before.

maybe you have a giant hole in your gas tank

i don't have a KA... but i have the predecessor to the SOHC one... same bore and stroke... my truck weighs 2,000 lbs and after the project i'm currently doing i'll be looking at 10 mpg highway

as long as you're not fouling spark plugs consider yourself ok

s*** I got like 32mpg on my trip from nashville to memphis. When I had it I got like 24 city driving. Check your plugs, gap, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and o2 sensor if they arent new. Otherwise check your fuel lines for cracks and or weird discolorations. Also check your ground and power wires, and make sure all of your sensors are plugged in and secure.
