I might have done it if it wasn't at midnight during the week. Instead I'll be at work.

I'm most definitely looking forward to the game, though.

My thoughs on Brawl copied and pasted from elsewhere:

I'm very very pleased. The game's better than I'd hoped. The single player game, Subspace Emissary, is a LOT of fun. And it actually isn't single player only...someone else can plug in a controller and press start and they can help you (sometimes as a color-changed copy of your character, and others as a different character).

I'm happy with all the changes done to all my favorite characters. Kirby plays better than ever. They seem to have found a sweet spot for his play style. He never hit hard before but he was also sort of dull movement-wise. Now he's still a lightweight as far as damage, but he's much more quick and responsive.Zero Suit Samus's whip is devastating and she's really quick and agile and has serious jump range.DeDeDe is SLOW and big. He hits really hard but he makes Bowser look agile.Pit is awesome and is definitely my favorite new character. He can out-fly even Kirby (by a considerable amount).Meta Knight is a lot of fun. Small and insanely quick, he doesn't hit hard but he can be all over the map. His recovery jump is sort of hard to control, though.

Brawl mode is pretty much as before, but with some tweaks to game balance (it feels to me like it's easier to resist falling off the screen at higher percentages). The AI is a lot smarter (even level 1 AI will usually think better of walking into a thrown bomb or pokemon) which is good because it means easier AI levels aren't boring and stupid, just not insanely hard to kill.

The new items are a lot of fun, too. The bumper wreaks havok on ALL players, even the one who placed it. On one battle, Meta Knight tossed one past me, then charged. I jumped, he hit the bumper and was flung back. Hilarious to watch. There's also a new item that turns any enemy hit by it into a trophy (not sure how or if it works on players). Ads a new dimension to the trophy collecting aspect of the game which is, of course, complimented by the sticker system (augment your favorite character by applying stickers to his/her trophy).

The final smash moves are crazy. You can completely topple the flow of battle with them. Some, though, are absolutely NOT suited for team use (Olemar's leaves everyone else taking tons of damage, even teammates). Some are also harder to use.

Assist trophies are a lot of fun, too, although some of them backfire (like the nintendog, which obstructs the screen, thereby screwing EVERYONE over, doubly so if you're fighting the CPU which doesn't loose track of you even behind the dog.

I haven't had time to mess with all the new stuff, though.

Also, Yoshi still sucks.

Favorite character so far: Ike. He's an all around good character to play as.

I do enjoy Snake. Especially when I start yelling "Snake? Snake, respond! SNAAAAAKKE" when I get launched. His final smash is good. I like the fact that it's not random. I've dodged quite a few final smashes that use random attacks so far and I've only logged a few hours total in all the smash bros series. So having a controllable smash is insanely nice.

We're only about 10 missions into Subspace Emissary, so another 30 and I can report on the total experience. The gameplay is spot on, although I hate that second player doesn't get an icon over their head denoting where they are. I get lost during the big melees, such as the end of Marth's mission where you're hacking and slashing through dozens of troops, and that gets me killed. Also, the game is quick to damage a player who skips off screen in SE, which is obnoxious. Primarily because my friend who's playing SE with me runs away fast and as soon as he sees me off screen, turns around. That would be fine and all, but the screen backtracks too fast and I end up off the other side. We end up dancing my guy off screen about 3-4 times before I yell at him to stop moving.

All in all, I'm very impressed with the game, and I'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't enjoy it.

Ironicly the only people so far who dislike it are some of the "hardcore" tournament type because the game was rebalanced and they can no longer dominate every other character with shiek / fox / falco / marth.

Yeah everyone seems to be having some issue or another, I personally had that error code then it fixed itself but now the lag makes it unplayable for the most part.

Double irony is that people who play to have fun rather than for the purpose of winning pointless tournaments all despise those same characters. They're no fun to play with. I'd rather play as someone else than lose than play as Fox and win.

When I was introduced to Melee years ago, I played Pikachu for the sole purpose of getting knocked off the map and hearing him say "Pika piiiiiiiiii" as he disappeared into the horizon

lol. I'm pretty much unstoppable with Pikachu. and I say this having been limited to versus matches with just friends and family haha. I might consider entering a tournament or two though, once I'm completely comfortable with brawl.

Even funnier still is that if Nintendo made the game exactly the way they wanted and went with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" then they would still use the exact same same characters on the same flat stages as they did in melee no matter how many new character were added.

Also have you seen a competitive Melee match video? its horrible to watch all the wavedashing makes it look like there glitching everywhere, It reminds me of snaking in mario cart DS.

Gawd, I love this game. The Subspace Emissary is awesome. It gets a little repetitive after a while, but the cool cutscenes more than make up for it. I have about 8 hours into it, and I'm about 82% complete. so I'm glad that they added some length to the game, and there is an actual STORY this time haha.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but I love how they made picking up items while airborne a lot smoother. for instance, it's a lot easier to grab an item during mid-jump as opposed to Melee where if you tried to pick up a Bob-omb while jumping, your character would attack and you would have blown yourself off the map.

Yeah, HUGE improvement that added a lot of possibilities to the game. They've done a lot of little things like that that have really helped to improve the flow of combat.

I just got to the last stage (maze) of the Subspace Emissary but I had to quit and go to work. I'm using a combo of Kirby and Dedede for the maze. I like what they chose to do with Dedede in the Subspace Emissary story (anyone who's played the Kirby games knows what I mean, and it's completely true to the character). Kirby's great for wading through tons of weak baddies and Dedede is excellent for obliterating bosses.

Another "little" improvement I really like in Brawl is the character animations. They're very fluid, very natural.

Yep last night I was playing a buddy and I smoothly snagged the last dragoon piece mid jump and proceded to own him, you can also grab items while air-dodging.

QFT -- the first SSB will always be the best. although i must say the second just feels more fluid in movement than with brawl. i dont know, the story's kinda whack too.

i loved the glitches in the first two games. thats what made them fun.

WAVE DASH ftw!
