Super-secret Service menu

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Ok - so I went to the dealership to get my fuel pump TSB taken care of and I asked the manager of the service department if there was a way to disable the nav lockout. He said - I'll take care of that for you. He got in the car, and started pressing the buttons on the side of my cluster (the button with the square icon and the one next to it) in some kind of sequence. A menu popped up on the screen in the dash and then he was able to make a bunch of changes to the car's behavior.

Does anyone know how to get into this super-secret menu?

The NAV GM uses in the Corvette and other cars has a simillar control mode. You need some codes to get access.

Is your Nav lock now disabled?

There is a service menu where some of the configurations can be changed, but I did not see any option to switch off the speed sensor. Here is how to get the menu:

1. Start the engine.2. Turn the audio system OFF.3. While pressing the “SETTING” button, turn the volume controldial clockwise or counterclockwise for 40 clicks or more. (Whenthe self-diagnosis mode is starts, a short beep will sound.)• Shifting from current screen to previous screen is performedby pressing the “BACK” button.

It wasn't that menu. I'm well aware of that menu and how to access it. This was completely and solely done with the buttons on the instrumentation panel and the menus were displayed in the dash.

So did you confirm that Navigation controls now work while driving?

I would be shocked if there is anything the dealer can do to disable the Nav lock-out. You can do what I did (mainly to allow my front Nav screen to display DVD) and install a switch in the VSS wire going to the back of the Audio/Video module (stereo head unit).

The only sub menu I know of is the Confirmation and Adjustments menu.

The only thing that an owner would need with that is maybe checking the microphone and speaker tests. You may also set the volume for the outgoing call volume.

Other than that the primary use for that is monitoring the integrity of the TX RX lines and AV system diagnostic codes, although they are extremely vague and not specifically defined in diagnostic procedures.

There is no way to defeat the lock out or the agreement to access the Nav map other than modifying the circuit. Using the Nav bypass does however allow you to use all the grayed out functions.

EDIT- I re read the OP and he is referring to the settings menu for the combination meter I think. Maybe he reset the OPs maintenance indicator. There is nothing that the square button can do for the Nav system.

I looked in the FSM for diagnostic menus related to the trip computer in the instrument panel. I didn't find much, except page MWI-38 mentions a self-diagnosis mode for the LCD:1. Turn ignition switch ON, and switch the trip meter to “trip A” or “trip B”.2. Turn ignition switch OFF.3. While pressing the trip A/B reset switch (1), turn ignition switch ON again.4. Make sure that the trip meter displays “0000.0”.5. Press the trip A/B reset switch at least 3 times. (Within 7 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.)6. The unified meter control unit is turned to self-diagnosis mode.- Displays "888888" (1) and "8888.8" (2) in the information display LCD (3) for approximately 5 secondsand then blinks the segment dots of the information display LCD alternately.- Water temperature gauge and fuel gauge return to zero, and at the same time.

It doesn't mention any settings that can be changed though, and that uses the trip A/B reset button, not the square (enter) button. But I wonder if there's another undocumented menu involving the square button.

This thread has gotten oddly quiet after the "tough" questions got asked.

It makes me suspicious *cough* troll *cough*

^^ Agreed,

It is time yet again to call shenanigans. I would love there to be a simple answer to the factory added safety feature.

How about some funny pictures

Is that it, or is there more to this story? I hope this thread is not dead, b/c I'd love to disable the auto-lock. It's not fun waiting for the next traffic light to finish programming the Nav!

I understood that the OP was making up the thing about the interlock, but I have not been able to get to the above settings menu. Is it only accessible in cars with navigation units? I'm sure I was rotating the dial clockwise because there is a clock right underneath to remind me. Can someone please advise as to which options are present on the hidden submenu?
Thanks.

Are you rotating the big dial on the panel or the audio volume control knob? Oddly enough, it's the audio volume control knob that you are supposed to rotate.

If you find out how to disable the speed / Nav safety interlock, Darwin also reccomends disconnecting your air bags and removing the seatbelts for the long term good of the human race.

....ever think of using the voice commands? You can do pretty much anything and stay in your own lane at the same time.

Not really, I've tried it and it's more distracting going through all the menu's verbally. Not only that, usually my passenger is doing the change, rarely is it me. And using the passenger voice is at times iffy with the mic located where it is.

I have full access in my MDX and it works well. I'm just talking about the nav.

Yes, thank you blfstyk and audtatious. I was able to access the menu via the audio dial. It wasn't useful, but atleast it was interesting to see. It seems well designed. I wish they had included a test tone for the subwoofer too.

If you have the Around View Monitor cameras, one thing you can do from this menu is have the camera shown all the time (rather than just when your speed is under 6 MPH or whatever). Still not that useful though, but kinda fun.
