Greetins All,
Just wondering what you all think on purchasing a "M" with 100,000+ or more miles on it? I would not be looking to resale or anything like that, but just for driving pleasure. There are more of these high miles one's out there than low mile cars;due to age, I assume. Awhile back I thought I had a purchase locked up while I was in Afghanistan, only to get back and the car was sold from under me...had to fight tooth and nail to get money back. Another story.... Lastly would these cars be elgible for a warranty. Any info is highly appreciated.

CarMax? There are some high mileage ones there and you can add an extended warranty.

I have 122kmi on mine and it drives like the day I bought it with 32kmi on it...maybe even better due to the mods. If it was taken care of, 100k ain't no big thang.

As far as 6cyl Vs 8cyl, that's a personal preference and the 6cyl in my M35 is plenty. I dont do green light challenges, deserted roadway races, or the like. I have never even used the manual shift option, LOL.
To be honest, I have found a few times when I'm on I95 or similar and a car slides slowly up next me in the other lane. If Fetucini is in the car, it's a no go unless I want to hear the list of why it's stupid, why it's childish, why it's dangerous, how the other car isn't even asgood looking, etc. If I'm alone in the car and traffic permits, <evil smirk>, I have been known to grab the wheel with both hands and give it the beans, leaving them in my rear view. Most of the challengers who have the annoying 'fart box' mufflers can take off quite quick, but once up to speed, they have nothing left and even against an M35 6cyl with twice the weight of their cars, they can't keep up. I'm sure an 8cyl will out-do more cars than mine will but I can tell you this honestly: every single time I want to pull out or around a car on surface streets or hwy, I mash the pedal and ... I'm gone! That's all the power I need. On a recent trip to the north of the USA, I did a run with a Porsche Cayenne SUV in front and a Bently coupe behind me - all of us at a constant speed of 100-110mph for quite some time and my M had no handling issues, no stability issues - it road and handled as if I was doing 50mph, but using much more fuel LOL.

One thing: I'v seen members with the V8's (M45 mosty) report oil consumption. Nothing alarming, just consumption. I don't have that issue even with over 90k miles and I don't recall seeing members with the 6cyl complaining about oil.

Again a personal opinion, but unless you live where there is significant snow for long periods, or muddy roads with rugged terrain, steer clear of the X models. They don''t ride as smooth or quiet, don't handle all that great, and are less fun to drive. Then, there is the added expense for maintenance and tire wear.

Also: the newer models have the 7sp gear box which I have driven a few times on loaners (limited experience). The gear box is wonky and does not shift as smooth as the older 5sp gear box on the 06 & 07 models and it does NOT save enough fuel in day-to-day driving to bother mentioning.

A modern (2000 or newer), well maintained car made in Japan will easily last over 200,000 miles. The higher the initial build quality the longer you can expect it to last. Nissan/Infinity are no exception to this rule. A properly maintained and properly driven M purchased used at 100,000 will likely survive unscathed into the 250,000 mile range assuming you continue the maintenance plan and drive it just as nicely.

Skipping scheduled maintenance and driving your car hard will decrease the life immeasurably.

I just purchased an '06 M35x with 135K on the clock and don't feel a bit of remorse or regret about it. It drives better than a lot of cheaper newer cars. Hell, it drives better than the 50k mile 2011 QX50 (or whatever the Infinity monstrosity based on the Pathfinder is) that I got as a loaner last week.

I purchased my 06 M35S with 158k, and the only problem that it has given me was regular maintenance. Oil change, drive belts changed, spark plugs changed, new tires for my aftermarket rims, the only 2 problems where the oil cooler leaking gasket, and a leaking rear drivers side caliper.... It has 165k and no issues at all. No burning oil issues, transmission shifts smoothly in both modes, and it is still quick of the line. I love it and plan on keeping her a long time to come.

As long as the car was maintained by the previous owner/owners you should be good if you run into one like I did then prepare to open your wallet.
Stay far away from the X repairs are very costly and most parts are almost impossible to find if not at a dealer.
If the car is originally from up north then inspect the heck out of everything I made the mistake of not looking and now I'm regretting even getting into this car.

Mine came from a local Infinity dealer that offers a 3 month/ 3K mile warranty on the cars they sell. If they can't warranty it they won't sell it used and it already covered recharging the AC - no questions asked. I had them service the transmission while it was in in the event that a piece of dirt gets dislodged in the process and kills the transmission. If it hasn't happened in the next 2K miles it likely won't happen.

The dealer offered to sell me an extended warranty, but I always feel like I'm getting shafted when I buy those, so I turned it down. The lending institution usually has a line on extended warranties because it protects their investment.
