I just had some head work done and picked up my car on sunday.

when I picked up the car, it was idling super high at first, even higher than the normal warm-up setting. I figure it might just be really cold, but it hasn't come down.

As soon as I turn the key, it jumps up to 2000 rpms, and won't come down. When I disengage the clutch, the rpms drop down almost to 800rpm, but then jumps right back up to 1500-2000 rpm. sometimes it's unstable, wavering back and forth between 1200-1800rpm...

I've tried/checked the following things:

IAA screw adjustment (disconnected the TPS)throttle cable isn't too tight, has some play to it (so plate isn't sticking open)

what would cause such a high idle situation like this?

Dave

first of all, since someone else did the work for you, you should take it back to them and explain your problem. maybe it could be a vacuum leak. but let them figure it out.

hey just a thought but did they try to bore out your TB or anything like that, cause they might have made it too big for the butterfly so even when the butterfly is closed it is still leaking alot of air around it causing it to be at partical throttle all the time...just a thought, let me know what you find out....

No, they didn't mess with the throttle body, but they put the s13 obdI intake on the s14 head, and I wonder if they didn't connect everything back correctly.

What symptoms would a vacuum leak exhibit? jerkiness under partial throttle, high idle?

if you had a vacuum leak you would more than likely have a hard time idling at all not a high idle, not real sure on that one....

Maybe they used s13 electronics from the s13 intake manifold? They're not compatible.
