Hi peeps... Problem: When you try to open the sunroof, it wont open, u hear the motor, but no moving... U actually have to try to pull it open and get it going, then it will open by itself.. And to close it, same way. I have to get it started both ways first, then it will act normal. Like jump starting it i guess. I searched around, but no one with the same issue, So whats my problem? What should do. I have a Q mech that doesnt mind working on it, but he honestly told me, he has never had to work on these sunroof, on none of his Q's. So give me some ideas and answers please, so i may give it to him and he can go from there.. Thanks

The article that the link goes to is pretty self explanatory. It should give you everything you need. IIRC, to get to motor, you have to pull the switch assembly out. At least I know I did that get to the hex to close it when the switch broke.

ur right Haiti.. it is self explanatory... I see what to do now, i just wanna know how to get to it now.. Cause i was thing of taking the headliner down.. he said no.. it should be simple and i should just ask so he could do it.. but ill ask him to take the switch panel down and go from there. I just didnt want to take half of the roof of the car off then mess up something else. And then someone like maxnix call me a dumbass... (which would really run me mad). So i figured id better ask how to get to it first.

As long as it's moving back and forth you're not in too bad a shape. Probably just need a thorough cleaning and lube. I was having similar issues in the 90Q and most of the dirt was hidden in the rail under where the roof retracts. Mine also wasn't fully closing without a nudge and there was a lot of dirt packed in the very front of each rail. Also clean up the rubber seal around the moonroof and any wax buildup around the opening in the roof.

If you find that you must remove the headliner it's not hard. To remove the front section that covers the sunroof motor the map light pulls down (no tools reqd.) and unplugs. After removing the visors and rear view mirror all the mounting screws are exposed. Once this piece is out you'll be able to adjust or remove the sunroof motor. Try and avoid removing the rear section of the headliner. Its clips are glued and you'll probably break at least a couple.

Mike,

What exactly did you lubricate and with what?

IIRC, I think it was the tracks he lubed and it was with white lithium grease. I could be wrong though.
