In my 01 Qx4, if youve got the sunroof to, youve got the button on the drivers side that controls the back and forth open and close motion of the sunroof, click it back hard and it open all the way automatically. Then the button on the passenger side, is supposed to only shot the window up and down when its completely closed to let in a little breeze

Mine dont do that

BOTH my switches now act the same, and it was perfectly fine yesterday.

Now, both switches, can both push the window up and down and also back and forth. BUT they only do so in 3-4" incremints, hold a button and it goes back a couple inches then stops, exact ammount everytime , gets to the back and you can make it pop up ect. There also is no AUTO full back by either button, they both work in that 3-4" increment everytime.

I tried to see if I could get access to them but I couldnt figure how to disassemble, I found one bolt under the sunglass holder and the 3 bolts that hold the rear view on but the thing was still solid..... advice there?

So what could it be!!

Man I dunno, but I can help you take it off. My 99.5 is very simple in operation, and the switches look like they were cobbled together from Radio Shack parts

That screw under the sunglass holder is the only one I know of. Just remove that, and them you have to REALLY pull hard. When I did this, I broke a clip that holds a wire in place, but it's something you don't see and something that will never bother me.

You don't have to remove the rearview mirror, but you may.

Oh so its clipped into the roof? I didnt have to remove the rear view I noticed after i got it off.

To be honest, the bolt that was under the sunglass holder wasnt even there! So tecnicelly nothing but clips musta been holding that **** on.

Ok thats easy enough, now for the repair portion....

thanks again

I have the exact same problems with my sunroof but only after I disconnect the battery. I use the switches to increment it a few inches until its all the way open. then all the way closed. Then turn off the vehicle, restart it and it works fine. I had my battery disconnected 5 times when I was doing my audio install. Each time I had the same problem with the sunroof and each time this technique seemed to resolve it.

Yeah, I discovered that. Too bad. I am surprised to hear about an auto up feature. I could just see a kid or my dog getting stuck in it. (Yes, my dog rolls the windows up and down. How do you think I new about the window lock feature the other day?)

Actually the auto up has pinch protection. While driving an 02 Altima on a test drive, I tried it out and stuck my hand in there, and rolled it up. . it applied a little pressure, then reversed (like a garage door)

my driver side window is starting to do a little shifting so when i use the auto up function the window sometimes shifts and the window goes back down. can i stop this shifting or side to side motion whatever you lwould like to call it.
