Hey all,

I have a 97 q45, and I am getting this rattling type sound when I go over some bumps and what not. I have narrowed it down to the sunroof. When it is vented up, I notice the piece that moves up with it vibrates. I pushed up on it gently to see what happens, and I notices that the passenger side moves up more than the drivers side... does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it.

I was also thinking of getting the seal around it replaced, so maybe I can have them repair the part at that time.

Thanks for your help

You took the words right out of my mouth, I took my 97' to the stealesrhip last week to get oil changed (I bring my own Redline thank you so for $35 they do the oil change and wash) and noticed the exact same thing happening. I opened and closed the vent a few times too to see if it would stop...pissed me off, finally just cranked up the radio to make it "go away" a I don't realy know of a sun roof repair place and I have not interest in seeing what Peninsula Infiniti will want to fix it....let me know if you come up with a fix or maybe a sunroof place down by your in San Jose, I live in Half Moon Bay, BTW. Peninsula Infiniti is pretty honest but they make more per hour than a dentist!!

I have sunroof problem. Not a big one, but I'd rather that it didn't exist.

Sometimes my sunroof sticks when opening. The motor will run, but the roof won't slide back. Sometimes it goes right away, other times, I have to close it, and try it again.

No problems closing, just opening. Does it need to be lubricated? If so, what should I use?

Would WD-40 be suitable?

I think the sticking is a lubrication issue... but the problem I am having has to do with the ceiling upholstery... I think there might be some sort of clip or something that holds it firmly to the actually roof that may have broken....

For cleaning the rails, yes. For lubrication, no.

Use white lithium on clean rails

ok, so after looking, poking, and prodding, i think i have come up with something....

The piece where the shade assembly is held onto by the lid assembly seems to have a rattle... I looked at the FSM came up with this image.

In the red are two pieces that connect the shade assembly to the lid assembly with the help of what looks like a plastic piece with a spring.

The problem is, the piece on the passenger side seems to somehow have gained some give in it and rattles on bumps- I think the answer will come from Q45Tech, but if anyone else has any idea of how to fix this please help us.... Or an estimated cost to fix this...

Thanks for all the help guys!!

On my 94 Ithe sunroof began to creak and then one day a loud "pop"

Then it creaked over every bump and frame twist. I tried everything and then figured out that the frame sub-assembly came loose from the roof--I wedged a widget (a bic lighter) between the front of the roof and the frame sub-assembly and the creaking stopped.

The clips for the large piece of overhead liner are held on by epoxy to the pressboard material. If you're not careful when popping it loose the clip stays in place and the liner tears away from the clip.

I'm not sure about the interior sunroof liner but I suspect it's attached the same way. See if you can get a mirror in there and see if the same has happened here. If so, you may have to remove the liner and JB weld the clips to the top side of the liner. The cig lighter spacer sounds like an easy fix too. Good luck.
