AAAAAAAAAh!!! So i've known that my sunroof has been messed up for a while but i elected not to get it done until summer when it would even be used. However, my moron friend hit the switch today to try to move it back and of course i couldn't get it to close again. I took the car home, pried off the switch and got my allen wrench to do the dirty work. Well, the sunroof is almost closed but it's still crooked when looked at from the outside and not quite closed...although i can't physically see through into my car. The socket was starting to strip so I stopped so as not to cause further damage.

My question: Is this something I can just take to a local Nissan dealer and have them close for me or do I have to get this repaired now? I really REALLY can't afford to get it done now. Please help!

I dont see why a local delaer shouldnt be able to properly close it for you.

Same thing happened to me. The sunroof wont close completely snug and flat because the cable has probably broken. Jerry Tuckers guys were able to get it 98% closed, its just a little bit uneven but its closed enough to keep water out with no air blowing in. Its the cable that allows it to close completely. Its about a $1000 fix. Its a bummer.

Yeah, I knew it was gonna be that expensive. I just don't want to do it until I would even use the sunroof, not that fixing it is high on my list of priorities right now anyway since it's not absolutely necessary.

Anyway, I went out and bought a new allen wrench for 50 cents and was able to get it about 98% closed. No water and air or snow is good enough for me for now.

Is this 1000-dollar job something any mechanic w/ a manual can do or is it a dealer-recommended job?

There is supposedly a kit out now from the factory to make it a lot cheaper.

I am sure our factory reps will chime in with that info, when they see this thread.

Fred,

I was searching through old posts and Joe says there's no kit for the Q, just every other friggin Infiniti model. Dunno, if there's a new one or something, hopin so but oh well.

Jerry Tucker is working the numbers and calculating the absolute best deal he can do for me as I am such a loyal customer. The parts needed are the side channels which contain the cables, A new electric motor and a lot of labor. I will share this data as soon as I receive it.

I would be interested in this as well....my motor is ok....I just think the cables are shot....probably too much stress from not lubing the rails over the years...

....I just didn't know any better....

I don't know if I would ever do the job, I have heard it is DIY, but terribly time consuming..
