Hi Harry... I can't tell you if it's supposed to open all the way or not because mine has "never" opened more than 3/4 of the way. When mine is fully opened it looks the same as your roof in the photos you posted.
Like you I also tried the "reset" steps listed in the Rogues FAQ section under moonroof problems (steps copy & pasted below). I experienced the same thing as you... the steps do not work! Another member in the other thread also reported the steps do not work. When I get to step 3, I can hold the switch 4 seconds, 14 seconds or 40 seconds and nothing happens... the sun roof NEVER closes automatically as the steps imply. That said... the roof seems to operate okay... opening and closing evenly and tightly, with no mechanical problems (other than the fact in doesn't open all the way).
I've had factory installed sunroofs in all my cars since 1980 and everyone of them opened fully... until this one in the Rogue. I can't help but think its simply a poor design. ____________________________________________________________INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE If the sunroof does not close or open automatically, use the following procedure to return sunroof operation to normal.
1. Close the sunroof if it is not in the closed position. It may be necessary to repeatedly push the switch to close the sunroof. 2. Press and hold the TILT UP switch the sunroof will tilt up. Release the button. 3. Press and hold the TILT UP switch again. Do not release the switch, keep pressure on it. After 4 seconds of depressing, the sunroof will full close. 4. Initializing procedure is complete. Confirm proper operation of the sunroof (slide open, slide close, tilt up,tilt down.) ____________________________________________________________
