I have a 2000 Maxima with two problems, and they both may be related. I have water intrusion during heavy rains, which is often in the summer in FL. The water comes in at the front pillars of the driver and passenger side where they meet the headliner. I have researched that the car has 4 drainage tubes for the sunroof. The sunroof will not open or tilt, and there is no sound coming from the motor when the buttons are pushed. The dome light does work. Can I clear the drain tubes on the front without the sunroof opening by removing the headliner? Is it also possible that the sunroof electronics are shot because of water intrusion? The car is parked under oak trees, so the likely hood that the drain lines are block is pretty good.

We are the original owners, with 125,000 miles on the car and want to resolve this as painlessly as possible. As sexy and hot as the 2016 Maxima is the plan is to redo the carpet in the vehicle, and put in a new headliner once this leak is fixed. For $40,0000 I'd rather have a Cessna.

It sure does seem like you have a plugging issue. Oak leaves plugging the drainage tube ends seems very plausible.

Open your front doors and check that area at the bottom of the fender-door joint and you can definitely get started without major disassembly. The sunroof seal might be letting in excessive water too. Is it dry-rotted?

Take a gander at this link, page 48 of the body and trim:http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Maxima/2000/bt.pdf and this section of the FSM should get you rolling.
