sunroof / headliner rattle and fix

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have been living with this minor (but annoying) sunroof rattle/vibration every time I go over a crack in the road... Normally the music is loud enough to drown it out but when I have passengers, the music isn't cranked and I hear the vibration.
Well today I am on my way to work early this morning and since it is more than beautiful in the desert right now, I opened up the sunroof. GRIND GRIND HARSH NOISE GRIND GRIND HARSH NOISE..! WTF??!!
:wtf2:
I keep trying to get it to fully open and then it just stops and wont respond. Not even the grinding noise... Wonderful. Freaking sunroof motor must be an expensive fix.
:ohno:

So I do a quick search - "infiniti sunroof stuck"
The first result was the winner from the G35Driver forum.
http://g35driver.com/forums/v36-diy/413 ... v36-s.html

It was another DIY that was far more intimidating than it was in reality.

When I finally got the headliner pulled down so I could tighten one or both of the screws and hope that was all it was, an EXTRA screw fell out of the headliner as well as some weird piece of plastic. It looks like either an installation tool of some sort, or a cover of something?? (see below)

Anyhoo - I was able to tighten one loose screw and put one screw back in to mount the motor. Put everything back together and NO MORE GRIND!
Then I had to do a reset of the sunroof position (another google search) and all is well! Took less than an hour and I am sure it saved me a few hundred bucks at least. AND I am looking forward to the vibration /rattle being gone!

Nice to see you got it fixed! :bigthumb:

Also it's good that you found the how-to. I would've been :ohno: like you were at first without the thread you found on the other forum.

I dunno, but it seems like everything is working fine without it. It looks like a cover of some sort, but my best guess right now is a medieval torture device. :gapteeth:

OK I figured it out. That plastic piece is the cover that goes over the wires that run from the headliner to the rear view mirror.

You can't lose what you rarely get!
The only reason I figured it out was my window sun screen touched the sticky wires today and then the light bulb went on!
