* Special thanks to Gerardjg for above and beyond help! When I first bought my J30t almost 2 weeks ago, the sunroof wouldn't pull back all the way, so i sprayed some silicone on the tracks, cleaned the gunk out, and then sprayed them again.I have since been told by a body shop guy that I should only use 'grease.'My thinking is body guys do body work; you guys do the repairs. Which should I use?I guess that from some of the other posts I have seen and read, I am lucky that the tilt up and the sunroof still actually work on this 93 J30t.BYT: what does the 't' stand for? Thanks to all.BTW2: still haven't found a fuse for the ASCD, only the rely under the hood called the ASCD HOLD relay. Referring to the manual, I see that it could be a number of things: speed control switch, speed cable, brake pedal switch, pump, actuator motor, the buttons on the wheel. The dash light does come on when pushed, the control cable seems okay as does the pulleys and vacum lines, so it looks like a dealer repair. Thanks to all who made suggestions.B-kool.Jasonsos

On the Y33, the Sunroof section of the service manual only mentions putting "petroleum jelly" on the rail groove and wire. I couldn't find any other mention of a recommended lubricant.

The Sil-Glyde suggestion sounds promising - It has about the same thickness as Vasoline, is silicone-based, and harmless to rubber. Auto Zone sells small "ketsup packets" of it for about a buck; you can also buy a 4 ounce "toothpaste tube" at NAPA for about 6 bucks.

Thanks. I'll try that.I think you're correct in the case of a J30t: 'touring package.' Better suspension.Jasonsos

you may want to do a little more research before applying petroleum jelly. the key word being ''petroleum''. do not think it is compatible with rubber. also it seems to turn to a messy goo over a period of time. least that was my experience.

Along with Wurth rubber preservative.

Make sure the tracks are clean.

Make sure the tracks are clean.[/quote]Most lithium grease also contains the dreaded "petroleum"...

If PJ is good enough for the FSM, it's good enough for me...

AS long as it is confined to the rails, it is fine. I think the lithium has more staying power, though.

lithium is good and it can also keep you stable. as with all meds, proper dosage is paramount.
