Ok... so i was browsing and carousing ebay, and i happened across a sunroof deflector. what is a reasonable price for these and where should i get one from?

do they serve a big purpose? do i need one? does it allow me to keep the sunroof open at high speeds(90ish)?

I think they look cheap - Very 80's.

The Q has a great air diffuser built in. Also, it's relatively quiet at high speeds (100+)... But it's a matter of personal taste.

$40 sounds about right. I wouldnt pay more than that. I havent a clue how they are installed, but I think they distract from the cat-like stance of the Q.

And yes, they are pretty effective and reducing wind noise.

Boy is it ever. Kind of like driving over 80 mph with the sunroof open in the first place.

I had a dark grey factory one on my black 1991 and thought it worked well. It does not look good on a light bodied car, so now I do without. It does make a difference in noise.

Before you buy this call Joe T. and see if the factory part is still available. You never know how an aftermarket part will fit- the factory part of course fits perfectly.

Originally I was told there was a matching brown deflector for the gold and pearl cars (those with brown windows and brown rear light panel). But I was not able to find it.

If you live in an area where you have trees, then I would not recommend getting the sunroof deflector. What happens is that leaves and other crud from trees gets stuck under the deflector and then clogs up the drain holes in the sunroof. Washing with a hose and soap will not really help because the crud gets underneath the deflector and then into the sunroof rails. Once the drain holes are clogged, the water buildup will eventually leak into the sunroof motor and then into the passenger compartment. How do I know this? It happened to my 92Q. I had to replace the whole sunroof mechanism. The part alone costs $2000. Lucky for me I had the extended warranty that covered the whole thing. :)

rob, i just got them put on last fri. with fresh yoko es100's. i'm really not trying to rub anything in, but WOW, what a difference to the look of the Q!!!!!!! the rims plus the lower profile, 245-50-16's makes such a stunning difference!!!! i'm working on getting some pics up of the Q. just had the son of my landlord, who owns a bullit mustang, flipping out over my Q!!!! after all the money i give to that family, it's nice to have a little positive feedback!!!LOL anyway, he couldn't believe it was a 90Q. thanks again rob, and if you get a chance on new rims, you can't go wrong with the 99Q rims. jeff

OUCH!!!! i better get those pics up soon cause i don't want some crazy hitman from AZ beating my mellon with a stick!!!!LOL i'm gonna set something up with a friend who has a digital camera, and inlist the help of the friend( who is putting together a list of "things to do in cleveland" for greg--wink-wink!)on posting since my computer knowledge is only slightly better than my knowledge of south american mollusk mating rituals!!!! in all honesty, just got a car cover and was planning on a complete Zaino wax job before taking pics(can't keep the car clean for more than a couple days in a town with a cement factory close by!), but, for you guys(and greg and his big stick!!!), will light a fire under my very own ***!!!! jeff ps-i feel the 99Q rims are a perfect balance of style/class/and sport,,,,,,IMHO.

I bought my Q new off the showroom floor in 92, the dealer had already installed the deflector, on a dark car it looks fine and if you are tall it makes a tremendous difference in buffeting, I did not have one on my LS400 or my M5, much more wind buffet. Be sensible, direct the spray from the hose underneath it, keep it cleaned out under there and you will not have drain problems. It's like the spoiler, you either like how it looks or you don't. But it's VERY functional.

Open the rear windows when you have the sunroof open. (If you have medium to long hair it makes your hair stand up).

Having only the sunroof open acts like a parachute, but opening rear windows lets the wind blow through.

If stuff is blowing around your car is too messy!!!
