Hey guys, recently I had my sunroof drain lines get clogged, and I had some water come through the roof, and get the sunroof and interior light controls wet.

I let everything dry out, and both of the interior lights work fine, and the part of the sunroof which opens at an angle works fine, but the sunroof control to go back doesn't work at all.

I'm trying to determine what it is...

The control (which would be weird considering everything else works on the same control panel)

A fuse. Which would be weird for the same reason above.

The motor. Does the J30 use the same motor to open the little sunroof vent at an angle, to slide back and open? Because like mentioned before, the mini-sunroof-vent still opens fine.

Any tips on trying to figure out what is bad would be great.

Thanks!

im not familiar with that paticular control but it sounds likke the switch got a little rusty at terminals. take out the pannel and try to clean it up. little bit of sand paper or scotch brite should work.

Check out this thread....Sunroof motor adjustment...this just might do the trick...if this doesnt work, try replacing the motor.

I took a look at that post, and it seems like with that problem, you hear the motor trying to open the sunroof, but it doesn't move.

When I press the switch, I don't hear anything.

When I use the tilt function, I hear the motor and it opens fine.

Does the same motor operate the tilt function, as well as the sunroof sliding open?

I tried to take a look at the terminals, and attempted to clean them up. Honestly though, I don't have much electrical experience, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to sand and clean up. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

It is the same motor for both functions There are several things that can be wrong

The cables that pull and or push the panel fwd and aft could have rusted in place. Will it crank by hand easily?

In the motor there are limit switches that will not let the panel go aft if it is not all the way down. This switch could have gotten wet.

The switch itself could have failed.

Here is a wiring diagram if this will help you you can unplug the motor from the light panel and check the slide switch with a meter.
