Just got done installing two eight-foot florescent fixtures in my garage. The incandescent bulb that came with the house wasn’t enough. For $50 I got the two fixtures 4 75watt bulbs and the BX wiring I needed. I want to warn you, working with BX wiring is a pain and cuts your hands up. Now it is like daylight in my garage. I would highly suggest anyone with a garage to do this. After a few more things and projects, my garage should be good to go for working on cars.

Anyone here have lights in the floor of their garage? I'd like to install some, but of course I'll have to cut up a lot of concrete.

Here's an idea for you Rob... A buddy of mine does demolition - He called me one day and gave me 10 4-foot 4-bulb flourescent fixtures. I installed six of them in my garage ceiling (you could get a tan in there).

Then I attached another one to an old Craftsman creeper - I can roll it under my car to illuminate the underside... Works GREAT!

I want the lights flush with the floor so I can walk and roll my equipment over them. Less chance of tripping, and it adds a little to the wow factor. It might take me a year, but I intend to have the baddest garage this side of NASCAR.

yea that would be cool but u would have to think some oil would find itw way down in there. remember it cant be completly air tight cause u would have to change the bulbs.

Then you can rent it out for 20 dollars a day to your friends in SoCal?

We'll see. :) You're thinking there will actually be days that I won't be in there? With a fridge, a microwave and a comfy chair, I'll probably prefer the garage to the house!

you might be able to use some plexi glass to something like that to make a cover thats clear.

yea that is what i was thinking but u would still have to open it everytime a bulb burnt out.so it wouldnt be completly sealed unless u feel like resealing it everytime u change a bulb.

no, what you could do is just have an oversized sheet of plexi glass...lemme give a crude example...

__________ | | I I | | <-plexi glass | | I I | | ^ florescent tubes
