I was thinking of taking my drivers side sun visor apart to see if I can add a solid rod or use epoxy to make mine solid.

Anyone do any cutting on one yet to see what is inside.

It is of no use the way it is so I am going to dive in and rip it apart to try to make it functional.

Any help or ideas would be great.

What seems to be the problem with your sun visor?

A lot of Muranos sun visors flop to the down position when going over a road bump. The rod inside losses its ability to hold up the visior.

I think I will try magnets to hold them up.

New to the group, and a novice with dealing with car issues. My wife drives our Murano and has been dealing with visor flip situation for months. I was thinking of applying some velcro but didn't want the headliner to sag. How did you get the magnets inside the headliner?

If you do decide to replace the visor (as I did), you can buy it from Courtestparts (Courtesy Nissan) online for around $350, or over $200 below what the dealer will quote you. I ended up printing out the price quote from Coutesy, and my dealer price matched it (no questions asked... just... boom... here's a $200 discount!)

This whole visor thing is a joke. I have heard of some dealerships doing a "good faith replacement" but my dealership doesn't seem to believe in that. At $426 from the dealer, I'm not backing down that easy. I get notified of a recall telling me my air intake may come loose and my car may not run but when they won't perform a recall when visors are falling down and drivers are in another lane before they can get the visor back up or can see the road again... that's downright dangerous and Nissan should be ashamed of themselves. Not only for charging 4 times what something's worth but also for allowing potentially dangerous vehicles on the road when people can't afford their outrageous prices. Sickening.

I must have contacted the right person.

A month ago I contacted my nearest dealer about replacing the driver's side visor. Of course I had to drive 70 miles to get it looked at and was told they would contact the regional rep since the vehicle was out of warranty. "We'll call you next week and let you know the decision." they said. Well, that never happened and after a week and a half I called them - they didn't remember me. After being on hold for a while they "found" my file and said the rep declined my request.

I called Nissan Customer Support and spoke with what appeared to be a nice foreign lady (I have no idea what country she was in) about an unrelated issue I needed advice on. When the conversation came around to the sun visor it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! Very abrupt and unhelpful. She said I needed to take the car to the dealer to have it looked at. Well, I did that but now I needed to get that paperwork forwarded to Nissan. So, I call the dealer and guess what?.... no history that my car was ever there!

Well, since the Murano had a safety recall (not sure how an air intake can be a safety item and a sun visor blocking the driver's view isn't) I made an appt to have the recall done and the visor looked at - again.

Fast forward a week and another 140 mile drive. The recall is done and the mechanic discovers the visor is faulty due to an internal failure with a quote for $426. Crazy, isn't it? I call Nissan back last Thursday, the 30th and get a different person who took my information and after being on hold for about 5 minutes returns to say a Nissan Regional rep will call me back tomorrow (the 31st). I thought "great, this will be the same person who denied me the first time". Well, the call came and I was told Nissan will pay for the repair up to $500! I was flabbergasted. I told the lady that after what I had been through I had some faith in Nissan again.

Sometimes it pays to push an issue.

I am having a similar issue with my visor, and was wondering if anyone has replaced it themselves. Was thinking about going to a junk yard and getting one. If anyone has had some experience with this, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I wouldn't bother with a junk yard visor unless the car has like 5,000 miles on it. You'll probably pay between $75-$200 for something that is just about to break, as they were all designed the same way with the same parts. CourtesyNissan seems to have the best pricing on these, and if you bring their price quote to your dealer, they might even match it. Mine did!

My original visor lasted all of 70,000 miles; after I paid to replace that, everything else on the car started to fall apart after 100,000 miles so I traded in the car.

...and just to reiterate... this isn't just a *Murano* problem; it's a *Nissan* problem; every Nissan product I've ever owned has had failed sun visors, and a 1997 Mazda I bought used with 54,000 miles on it also had a broken sun visor.
