Sorry for the repeat post, but I put this in the M forum and nobody replied:

Out of nowhere I'm driving my 97' Q45 when the sun roof starts to make a whistling sound. I open and close it, but at 40mph it is bad. I inspected it and the only thing that looks odds is the back rubber looks like it is drooping a little bit.

I had a problem with this under warranty and they put a new rubber in. so I assume I have to either adjust or replace this. How bad is this going to be? I am not a DIYer but i shudder to think what this is going to be. Does the whole sun roof need to get taken apart. I'm going to have my mechanic who is in LA (I'm in the Bay Area) do a brake job anyways over Thanksgiving vacation, should I have him order new rubber? The rubbers is only 3-4 years old and the car is parked inside virutally all the time and it feels very young still.

Advise please

Jeff, it sounds like it might be an adjustment problem.

I would buy the gasket from Joe at everythinginfiniti.com just in case your mechanic needs it. Joe might take it back, if you don't need it.

Sorry, I have no idea what is involved in changing it out.

I had the same problem on my 94 (actually it leaked on my 94)... just put the sunroof so the back is popped up, and put a strip of electric cape on the back... spray it with some WD 40...

Fixed it for me.... no one would EVER know i had electric tape on the sunroof gasket.

If it is going to be complicated or expensive, you may want to consider a sunroof wind deflector. I had a little noise and leakage but its gone after putting on the deflector. I took the old deflector off my old maxima and it fit on the 97 Q45 just fine.

Great idea, thanks. It is really noisy so I need to do something, if they have to take the whole thing apart this may just be a player.
