If that were the case no tint would be legal anywhere. Why is it legal in Illinois for my to have no restrictions on tint for my back windows (I know I drive a coupe, but pretend it is a four-door) but nothing (yes, nothing) on the front windows, but just across the border in Indiana I can only go 35% (or so - don't really know for sure) all the way around the car. You wouldn't be able to see the rear-seat passengers in my car upon approaching, but it might be easier by Indiana law. Is there research somewhere that determined different levels of safety for LEOs in different states? If it was a safety issue, I would certainly think the laws would be much closer from state to state.ojhendrix wrote:The reason cops are anal about tint tickets is actually because it is an officer safety issue for us. When a person has illegal tint on their car and Im walking up to a stopped car, belive it or not It is almost impossible to see what/whos going on in the vechicle approaching which we are trained to look for.
i actually got a ticket driving back from Atlantic city as well on friday. I was very nice to a cop and he gave me a ticket for Radar detector instead ofthe tints and running a stop sign. The ticket was for obstraction of the windshield....$54. He says he hates those things. i dont care....he spared me for the moving violations and the tints.t0e wrote:Well today I was coming home from atlantic city when i passed a cop doing 70 in a 55. I get pulled over and I show him my SBA card hoping he would let me go since i have no points on my license. What do you know.. he comes back to me with a summons for my tints instead of giving me a moving violation. Any suggestions on how to get out of this ? i don't feel like driving back to nj just for a damn ticket.
I skimmed it. I realize your frame of reference. I don't know how old you are and I don't care much to know (not being rude buddy.) My uncle who is very close to me is a Sergeant in CT now and he admits when he was younger he was trained to scope out people with flashy cars, tints, etc etc... It's easy town revenue. He started when he was 19 he's well in his 40s now. Don't josh us man.. lol.. especially people who know what's really going on. I just recently got a bs ticket and my uncle knows about it. and in nj, tickets are given constantly to up town revenue hoping that you'll go no points. I've spoke to a lot of lawyers recently and done my side of the research. So thanks for being a cop and protecting the property of people, I truly respect that, but c'mon. BUT HEY, maybe it's less corrupt in the part of VA you're in? That would be almighty cool.ojhendrix wrote:AppleBonker,
Before go I go any further I want to say that I dont want this to turn into one of those ghey forum arguments. THIS IS NOT AN ARGUMENT. Honestly the only reason i posted was to offer some insight into the real reason cops do what they do, not the reason everyone assumes they do what they do. Although you may not "buy" it, Im telling you that this IS the reason tint is restricted from state to state. And that IS the reason some cops have it out for tint. Sorry I know it sucks but it is what it is. I understand your frustration because before I was a police officer I got a tint ticket my self and i felt like i was being picked on. For me it was hard to understand until I experienced the job. Do i write tint tickets...No but i understand it now.
The purpose of tint is to darken windows and like it or not unfortunately there are lots of kidnappers and drug dealers that messed it up for all of us. If i remember correctly there is a boatload of em in chicago (not trying to be funny the numbers in chicago are sky high). And I can only blab nad go on a rant on this because tint HAS restricted my view into the cabin of a vehicle before to the point where i couldnt see what everyones hands are doing which is my main safetly concern. At night time under street lights with police lights flashing it is difficult with tint on the window. Usually i will ask my drivers if this were the case to turn on their dome light. problem solved for me....but unfortunately that is not enough for some officers. Some LEOS REALLY have it out for tint im not going to lie to you. And the safety concern is the reason why. Like you said you may not buy it but it is.
If that were the case no tint would be legal anywhereTint cant be delagalized because some people actually NEED tint for medical reasons.
I think I could just as easily conceal a handgun in a hoodie as I could with tinted windowsVery true, but why make the situations more effed up than it already is? Traffic stops are already unfair advantages for police officer because essentially we are walking up to a surprise. The person being pulled over knows whats coming but we dont know what we are walking up to. tint or no tint. Tint just increases that level of concealment on the bad guys behalf. we are taught we need to see whos in your car. I know everyone hates cops peeking all in their car but unfortunately thats how we find runaways, wanted people, suspects etc. For me it is also how lower MY level of suspicion (if there is any to begin with) so i can begin to build a little repore with whos in the car- I Just peek through the windows, look around, no one has anything in their hands, nothing wedged between the seat as far as i can tell, no one has that "help me ive just been kidnapped" look on their face, and move on with talking/ focousing on the driver and what he/she is telling me.
As for your state trooper that pulled you over for your moving violation perhaps he DID notice your tint was illegal and being a trooper im sure that he did. Or even worse maybe there is the possiblity that he wanted to give you the s***tier ticket. Matter of fact since tint is illegal in your state im VERRY sure he noticed. Honestly a cop who wanted to give a kid a break would have only written you for the tint which was blatantly illegal and not the moving violation. You were stopped for a moving violation right??
BTW just as a side note you will notice the "hotter" "sunnier" states tend to allow darker tint than the others. Not fair I know but people with medical conditions need it darker depending on the environment.
Also when I stop any car i really dont like pulling drivers out of cars and detaining them for no reason. I dont feel like setting myself up for a lawsuit or job loss. Not to mention thats just not fair to the public. I think you putting on your dome light is awsome and appreciative. But we CANT just ask people to step out of their cars and search it because their windows are tinted. So that wouldnt work either.
Iam sorry to go on a rant as well but I just want people to understand why cops do what we do. Honestly im 24 years old, im young i like fast cars loud mufflers and sport bikes. I personally dont even have an interest in writting tickets at work anymore. Its not my thing and I hate having to go to court on my days off. yes there are some of us out there who dont like writting tickets. Matter of fact when I first got hired here before i could go to the academy they made me completely legalize everything I had on my car I had at the time and my yamaha r1. It sucked and I was pissed. Had to change my tint too. I didnt understand it then but I do get it now and I just wanted to share some of what I learned with you guys. It is ok to be pissed off at the law for picking on you guys because like I said earlier unfortunately the drug dealers and felons and kidnappers messed it up for everyone.
I loved this...at least he qualified it with the Skim comment, because his first statement was blatantly answered in the quoted post, haha.Nlghtmare wrote:I skimmed it. I don't know how old you are and I don't care much to know (not being rude buddy.)
