The Audi Club is having an HPDE Sat/Sun 10/14-15 at Summit Point Raceway, near Winshester VA. Very accessible to MD, DE, NJ, NY, PA, VA, WV. Audi welcomes folks with any make car. Might be a fun place for a NICO mini-meet. It's not that expensive.

It's a two day school, with lots of track time in your own car (no special requirements), hot laps in interesting instructor cars, skid pad time (wet, not dry), a banquet dinner, an event shirt plus lotsa of time to mingle with racers and enthusiasts. Among the other car clubs that piggyback onto these Audi schoolsare BMWCCA, PCA (Porsche),Subie, Corvette, Miata, Mercedes, etc. It's really a fun two days, it would be great to have some NICOnauts meet there.

If you'd like to learn more about Summit Point, here is their link:

Audi is renting the Shenandoah circuit, the Jefferson Circuit, plus skid pad. First timers will actually learn both tracks, which is great fun. Jerfferson is frequently featured on Motorweek. Shenandoah has a replica of the banked turn at Nurburgring.

There is also a school the weekend before Thanksgiving at VIR, if anyone is interested. Randy Pobst occasionally comes to the VIR events as an instructor. Very fun having him as an instructor or taking hot laps with him.

$325 for the school itself includes banquet dinner, event shirt, instructor car rides, a lotta track time.$44 1 yr Audi club membership (have to become a member to participate), membership gives you access to all of their events, plus several PCA (porsche) club autocrosses, joint events with other clubs, vendor discounts, auto show discounts, hospitality areas at races, subscription to their magazine, etc.

If you don't own an approved helmet, they'll rent you one ($40?)

Uhnless you live nearby plan to spend 1-2 nights at a local hotel, they have a block of rooms at the local Hampton Inn and Shoney's. Hampton is $81. Shoney's is a little cheaper.

It's open for licensed drivers 18+, your car has to pass a very basic tech inspection. Essentially if you car can pass a state inspection and doesn't leak fluids, it should pass tech. They recommend fresh brake fluid, (old brake fluid can boil). Regular seatbelts are fine, just has to be the same for both driver and passenger. I recommend bringing a camera, as you'd be surprised by the cool cars that attend these events. For example, one of the instuctors regularly brings a Carrera GT. (his beater is a 996 Twin turbo) He gets a lot of requests for student rides. .
