hey guys, im close to buying some new tires. ive always wanted to get a nice super sticky summer tire. my z this year and moving forward will be stored in an unheated garage, and im in denver, co. denver has lows that frequently go just below freezing, but generally not much below freezing and for the most part thaws nicely during the day. snow wont stick around here more than a day or two. its warmer here than people think denver would be, but we still do have a few cold snaps in the winter that gets pretty cold (single digits F).

anyway, ive been reading on the summer tires that they are subject to cracking if subjected to cold temperatures in the 20s. last thing i want to do is blow a wad on nice tires and give them a whirl in the spring or on a nice day and find out they are junked.

would it be worth considering a separate space heater out there or something or just ditch the dream of the super stickies and get some all seasons... or am i over-thinking things?

You are just over thinking it. The tire will not crack on you at colder temps if they are just sitting there.
My winters up here are WAY colder and never have issues with my tires cracking while in storage. (My garage is unheated too BTW). I can possibly see summer tires cracking under extreme cold weather while driving on them since they become very hard rubber; and you are flexing them during driving. But that would be a stupid thing to do, driving on summer tire in the cold. JMHO:)

^^^^I agree, just storing the car shouldn't be an issue as long as it's not for many years, or they don't deflate too much (air also shrinks when supercooled) from a leak or bad stem, it'd be driving on them that would be both stupid and dangerous in very cold temps. The rubber compounds used do not adhere to the road at all and you have the opposite of the stickies you have in the summer- they're very hard and slippery instead. Of course then there's the chance they do get cracked if flexed enough in spirited driving.
