I've been spending my summer in LA, San Deigo, Austin and Seattle this year I landed on 7/12 during a dust storm but otherwise missed it.

Me too unless I'm driving between Tucson and Phoenix the day it comes and then I hate it because visability becomes zero and we have 100 car fatal accidents.

Monsoon is a season, not an occurrence.

Those are dust storms (which occur primarily during monsoon season).

Monsoon season in Thailand is a mess.

When I was there in 1996 the crocodile zoo flooded causing hundreds of crocs to get loose and wander into the streets.
In 2006 my grandparents place (rural) was completely surrounded by water so my uncle built a canoe to get to work.

Americans would have whined to emergency services to get them out of the flooded areas, and on the way to a high school gym on higher ground, they'd start filing complaints that they weren't being temporarily housed in the Best Western... then their fat lazy arses would have demanded debit cards and blamed the government for allowing them to buy homes in a flood plain.
