2005 Q with a death rattle in the a/c compressor. There are a few ways to make the a/c kick on automatically and I have tried diligently to avoid them, however occasionally it happens. I am terrified that the compressor will lock while engaged and force me to deal with it and I absolutely can not afford it right now. With one belt obviously if it did lock the car would be inoperable. Can I pull a relay or fuse somewhere so that even if intentionally or mistakenly the a/c is told to engage it wont.?
Anyone know of a way to only take down the compressor engagement and leave blower motor and vent operational?

I've spent so much money in the last year on the Q and this is one of two things needing attention when I can afford it.
Hoping for a simple relay or fuse.

There is a black wire on the driver side of the engine bay that terminates behind/top side of the compressor. Unplug it and the clutch should not engage any more.

Edit: that's what my memory can come up with for now. There might be a fuse too.

Very good, when the torrential rains cease I'll give it a look- thank you so much! I'm going to try the Rain-X version of anti-fog and hope that keeps it clear in the rain.. any other product or idea? Is not going to be fun this summer in the 90's.. the compressor is making a knocking noise at idle, and there's everything from low oil to rods and bearings as diagnosis online, so I just figured I'd cut it off..

My 99 has an ECON mode which shuts off the A/C and allows the rest of the system to work.

I think Econ on my car just turns recycle air on and runs the compressor half as much.. I still here the compressor kick off when I'm pressing 6 to cycle through..
