How to keep the alternator from turning when removing the nut on the pully?

Use an impact gun with the belt still on the pulley. Just don't back it off all the way untill you remove the belt.

I already have the alternator off the car.

get a peice of nylon panty hose, wrap it around the pulley to its got some resistance, use an impact to pop it off-chet
