So I bottomed out my coils while I still have the KA in my car and now I'm scraping every where. Its awesome.

And with the RB in with the mckinny mounts the oil pan below the cross member I will destroy the oil pan.

So I'm going to shorten it about an inch and make a giant 1/4in thick diamond skid plate. Also I was thinking of adding kick outs to the sides of the oil pan to maybe help oil starvation and maybe some baffles.

Any one ever made a swinging pick up?

I also will be adding two small head drains like Carl did, Ive got all the supplies already.

Any one have pics of modded oil pans or suggestions?

baffling, baffling, baffling.

Do some flapping trap door baffles to keep the oil around the pickup.

baffling to keep oil from sloshing around and foaming up. Also ways to handle windage.

Why does it bother you so much, its not your car.

I know about proper suspension geometry and that, That's why I'm getting roll center correction ball joints, and a PBM max angle kit for more angle but more importantly lowering the tie rods and still being strong.

For the next few months, I want my car really low. I'll get tired of it eventually and raise it some but this shell is a POS so I don't care about dragging anything underneath the car.

Also I work at a tire/alignment shop, so my car gets monthly alignments so it always driving easy and consistently. Its not like I have cut springs and blown shocks.

There's a right way to do things, and a wrong way to do things, and while what I do with my right height isn't optimal, I don't mind the negatives for now.

So that being said, I would really like some help making my oil pan bash proof and at the same time improve oil control. Pics of modded pans would be awesome.

Joe is right. Why make a list of thing to do to save your oil pan from being crushed as oppose to just raising the car some. Why spend money on a fix when u could do it for free. PBM does make skid plates for S13's and S14's. I really never understood that, spend more money to fix a problem u could do for free. Being that low and going over speed bumps, i would still fear the skid plate being crushed under the weight of the car. Why make a thread on oil pan modifications, if you weren't open to advice or opiinions but still gonna do it your way no matter what was put in the thread?

i forsee this thread in the future:

"i spun a bearing i dont know why"

modifying your oilpan because you want your car low it stupid. period. its not a cut and weld procedure. it takes precise ability and fabrication skills to do it right and still maintain the integrity of the oiling system.

but you dont care cause you wanna scrape sideskirt.

you say you are doing it "right" but are willing to sacrifice for ride height. thats not right.

you want some advice other than raise your car? take this to a professional. if you f*** up your oil pickup modification (because you have to modify that too if you touch the pan) by a 1/4 an inch you can blow your motor because of starvation. all because you want a low car.

I really would like you stop treating me like an idiot or a simpleton.

If I get rod knock from something like this happening, so be it and I will know its my fault. But people make custom oil pans and custom pickups for engine swaps in all kinds of cars. Its a very simple mod, and I was looking at ADDING a swinging pickup if there was a kit or a premade setup I could buy.

The plan was to shorten the pan 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch, what ever is necessary to be just above level with the crossmember. That may also include shimming my motor mounts up as well. But the idea was to get the pan above the crossmember using shimming and welding.

I do know how critical the pick up is, which is why it would be mocked up to be in the best location possible, and then I would tack weld it or mark its place. Then take it to my friends speed shop (defined autoworks) then have them professionally weld it up and double check my oil pan mods as well.

Its not purely for ride height either, even last year when I was higher, I had small scrape marks on my rb20 oil pan. I did not want to raise my engine because of CG concerns and hood clearance. I wanted to increase capacity and add kick outs and baffles even then. So now I take out a small amount of height, add in oil control and have professionals over look my work. I think it'll turn out fine.

I will be modding my pan within the next few months as well. My mounts drop the pan about 1/2" below the crossmember and there is no way of bolting back the swaybar even with a spacer. Even if you aren't that low, if you drop a wheel at willowsprings (local track), I'm pretty sure your oil pan will be finished. Anyways the only thing i would avoid against is the swinging pickup. It would be pretty hard to design without any leaks.
