Hey all!

I just acquired a '98 240sx/se and found out the speakers are in pretty bad shape. I am looking to upgrade the system in the next week or so before I head out on a road trip.

I have been searching these forums as well as other Nissan forums. I have looked at cardomain.com for some help with what will fit the car. I have heard that Infinity and Pioneer provide decent sound (HU + speakers). I am looking at a pioneer HU and Infinity speakers. I am not looking to spend more than $300 for new speakers and a new HU.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. =o)

Pioneer HU with Infiniti Reference seperates would be <$300. Won't have much bass, but it would work.

Yeah, I researched a little further and figured I might just go with a Pioneer HU and Speakers.

I am thinking of a Pioneer DEH-P4800MH (I haven't looked at the feedback for this one, but I think this one or the 5800 are supposed to be the best of the series right now) for the HU and the Pioneer TS-A1671R. They are rated a little highe than the TS-A1681R's, but I haven't compared the two yet.

Right now that is my choice for music. I don't want bass that is going to sound like the car is going to fall apart, but I want something that will sound halfway decent.

The 4800 is OK. I'm running that right now.

I think I figured out what I am going to get.

The Pioneer DEH-P5800MH and the Pioneer TS-A1671R speakers. I wanted the Pioneer TS-A1681R speakers, but they are hard to find around here and I need the speakers ASAP, so ordering them online would be out of the question.

I ended up getting the Panasonic CQC1333U and Kicker 055KS60. I also ended up spending $160 more than I had planned.

The system sounds amazing! I am no audio expert, and I didn't want something that would rattle my car apart, but would sound very clear. It sounds very good. I played around with the fader, balance, bass, and treble, as well as the SQ (EQ) presets.

However, on my way home from getting the system installed I heard a rattle. It sounded like something was hitting the metal on my door. It only happened for a few seconds. I don't know if it was the cassette tape in the door or one of the speakers is loose (is that even possible?) or something else? It was right around where my left knee rests (which is near the speaker in the door). Very odd, but the car made it home and I noticed nothing different about the way it runs, so maybe it's nothing to worry about?

Glad you like it.

Take everything out of the door pockets and play something with bass. See if and where it rattles.

I played around with the speakers for a bit and tried a few different songs, but I haven't found anything else that rattles. Nothing in the car itself has changed and it still drives the same. I have no idea what it was, but it scared me a bit. I looked under the car near the wheel on the driver's side and didn't see anything out of the norm. I don't know why there would be anyway. The only thing I can think of doing is taking apart the door and looking around. Oh well?
