I recently purchased a pair of illumiLITE 1" dome tweeters from Walmart, thinking I could mount them in a place that sounded good and would not be visible from the front or rear of the car. Unfortunately they were so bright that they gave the entire top half of the cab a bright blue glow. To make things worse, I had the LED power wires spliced into my subwoofer speaker wires so they flashed a lot and I was afraid of getting pulled over. I also recently tinted my tail lights with Nite Shades spray, and had an epiphany moment about how to use what was left in the can. Thus, the point of my post......
The mounting hardware included with the tweeters allows you to set the speakers inside an enclosure and then secure them with an opaque screw on top. I sprayed the screw on tops with two coats of the Nite Shades and a nice clear coat and the resulting effect is more than I had hoped for. Not only was the brightness greatly reduced while still allowing some visibility, the portion of the speaker containing the blue LEDs is also opaque and gives a nice thin glowing ring effect from behind. I will post pics and vids later tonight so you can see what i'm talking about.
