Seeing as how all of our cars are getting older, little things that happen with age are often overlooked. The throttle cable does stretch over time and I just took out almost a half inch of throttle cable slack today. For those of you who have not done it, I recommend that you check yours out. It takes 5 minutes to do and will give you a much improved throttle responce.

Okay, here goes for the KA24E, KA24DE will be very similar or exactly the same: Find the bracket that holds both the throttle cable and cruise control cable. It's just aft of the throttle body. You will notice two nuts on each of the cables that hold the cables to a specific length by sandwiching the bracket. Loosen the one closer to the throttle body and it will screw towards the throttle body, then screw the other nut towards the first one to retighten the cable. Do this for both the throttle and cruise cables.

The correct tightness for the cable is basically the point where there is not slack hanging but the cable is not so tight that it is actually pulling the throttle open all by itself. Like a guitar string, but not actually exerting force on the throttle butterfly.

Now start the car, if it's not too tight you should have a normal idle as before (assuming you had a good idle prior to this). Go for a test drive and be careful, the throttle will now respond as soon as you touch the pedal, and don't forget to test the cruise control for normal operation.

*holy thread resurrection*

can't let these good threads die :)

i just did it.. and i tightened the drivers side cable as far as the screw allows it to go, and its still a bit loose, damn heavy footed ppl who drove it b4 stretched it out :D

do u kno if theres any other place i could adjust this? or if i could make the cable shorter somehow?

havent driven my car yet, but im sure the throttle response is better, and maybe cruise will magically work now

 Max

Well, if there isn't anymore slack to take up, then you need a new cable. Only other way I can think of is to somehow bend or otherwise modify the bracket to move it towards the front of the car, but that's kind of rigging it. I've never checked, but perhaps adjustment/rigging at the other end of the cable?

alright, well the throttle response increased a lot :D, even though the gas pedal is slightly loose still. it shouldn't matter if the cruise control cable is firm and the gas pedal one is slightly loose right?

Should be okay; if you think about it, the throttle cable is always more stretched than the cruise since it's used a lot more often.

I went and checked mine as well after reading this. I've been meaning to check it b/c the pedal felt like it moved about 1/4" before the engine would rev. Sure enough, there was slack. The FSM says to adjust the nut until the throttle plate begins to move, then, back off 1.5-2 turns. Gotta make sure there isnt any slack or you just may not be getting total WOT when the car is floored!!
