Anyone every seen a mod like this? A way to make the rear hatch easily removeable?

I ask because while I like the t-tops, when they are off the wind has no where to go behind you so it just whips around your head/ear. At highway speeds it is pretty annoying after awhile.

So if there was an easy way to disconnect the hatch it would be closer to a convertible w/ a roll bar. On days w/ no chance of rain you could leave it at home.

Crazy idea?

The wind issue is real, but I don't think there's a good solution for it. On my 4 door I just open the rear windows and problem solved.

Removing the hatch would be odd looking. Mechanically, it would probably be difficult to do and still have it work on hinges. It would likely lose its ability to open, and either just be on or off.

Hmm.. didn't think about fixing the wind with the back windows. My 2+0's are fixed, but if they were moded to push out, the wind would go out the back some at least. Hmmm...

Why remove it? Just open it, prop it open in place with a couple of two X fours, and you will have one of those awesome wings. Tell people it's a large wing because even a stock Z will do 300 mph and you need the down-force. To thoroughly convince them that what you say is true, tell them that's why the model name is 300ZX. Course to make this a little more plausible, you may want to paint the 2 x 4's in body color.

OP, do you have the wind deflectors on your Z under the Ttops? If you need some let me know

This is what they look like in case you are wondering: http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_in ... ts_id=4080

You can also roll up your windows a little to help with the wind. I roll them up to where the 45ish degree portion of the window is at the top of the door. That seems to be a perfect spot to kill the crazy wind.
